Johnson would now be a rookie if he had played four years in college rather than going to the NBA straight form high school. Johnson who is still only 22 has played less post high school minutes D-league and NBA combined, then a rookie with a 4 year college career would have played.

So in my opinion he still has an upside whereas Evans who is 29 and knocked around the league has only a downside as the drop off in his play the last two years has shown.

How much of an upside does Johnson have? I have no clue but it will probably be very limited unless he can meaningfully reduce his foul rate and get an opportunity to play and development.

Personally I think that the Raptors management has used Evans injury to get to see what Johnson can bring when he given the responsibility of serious rotation minutes game in and game out.

It could be that they want to see more, especially now that the Raptors are pretty much at home in the near future and they are having time to practice and hopefully work out some of the kinks.

If Bargnani plays he needs to stay on the court and not get into early or late foul trouble.

He will always and I mean always except for a freak game or two, be a lot more valuable on offense then he on defense.

. I expect Johnson to have atleast 5 fouls this game (if not foul out>>

Five fouls is highly possible. I can't argue with that.

However, fouling out is another story unless Bargnani doesn't play.

In 148 NBA games Johnson has fouled out of three of them. Interestingly enough in none of those 3 games did he play over 21 minutes although he has played a lot more games of over 21 minutes in his career than three.

That's not as far fetched as it sounds. By "handle" I don't mean shut him down, it just means prevent offensive rebounds, not allow deep post position and make him earn his points. Howard will get his 20/10 either way, it's a question of how much help Bargnani will need which in turn allows all the other Magic players to get off.

Bargnani's had stretches where he's done a good job on Howard only to be bitched out by the refs.

THIS is presently the best team we can be!! From this we need to keep doing it all like we did on Fri -but ONE thing more ... defence ... yeah, it's good but not enough. Skills, brains, strategies, focus, commitment, game -s'all good guys; but no guts.
Be it ever so humble, that bucket is your home; your girl, your child, your Momma. Those other guys are guests in name only. They are NOT your friend. And as this home-girl, this child, this somebody's Momma, we're not feeling too terribly safe. We got stronger teams coming up against us and just doin' it right just ain't gonna save us. Attack guys! You got it!! Use it!! Use what your Momma and coach gave you and slam it to them! I dunno WHAT the hell your holding back for. We've already made all the preliminary mistakes possible. If you take all that good stuff you did on Fri and do it up GREAT, -we'll be fine for the future too.

Bargnani's actually done a half-decent job on Howard a couple times already. so, if he's playing (?), it could be a reasonably fun battle to watch, down there.

Arse... c'mon seriously, "If Bargnani can handle Howard 1-on-1..." - this is not happening. Never.

Love the optimism though. I was at ACC for the first game against the Magic, and felt terrible during the first half. They were drilling threes from everywhere! Hope our Raps to a better job to get out and contest today.

Actually, if bargs sits out, we'll get to see exactly what kind of interior D we really have, for better or for worse. I'm guessing that it actually isn't that much better, if it is at all.

Excited for this game - it's on CBC so anyone with a vacuum tube should be watching. Hopefully the raptors don't get destroyed.

Just one thing Arse - when you say fans would likely have been "reigning" down cat-calls, it doesn't mean what you think it does - namely, to reign means to rule. As in, a king reigns (orders, supervises, rules, iz tha boss) over his kingdom.

I think you were looking for "rain" which is a perfectly acceptable homophone. Picture this: Vince Carter walks out on the floor and boos rain down upon him, as water droplets in a massive thunderstorm of hatred, showering him with scorn, leaving him soaked in derision. Yeeeep, that's our VC.

Remember last time Orlando played Toronto. They were missing 3 key players. They were led by their franchise player Dwight Howard. I am sure that our franchise player should have no problem. With barg, belli out, the defense should be great especially our interior defense.

Can't wait to see the comments posted by raptors republic on the game.

Johnson does have a tendency to leave his feet... but this isn't really out of the usual for a shot blocker. Pump fake junkies.

One big difference we have with Orlando vs Miami is that Orlando has almost nobody who will penetrate (Vince ofcourse CAN... but whether he WILL or not is always questionable, but then again he likes to actually try when he plays us).

Staying on the perimeter and hacking the crap out of D-12 usually leads to decent results against Orlando. I expect Johnson to have atleast 5 fouls this game (if not foul out)

I’d flirt with the idea of putting Amir Johnson on Lewis and see how he fares>>

Johnson still has weaknesses on defense, but doesn't just about any player? However, Johnson is still terrible in making the right decision when defending one on one when he is isolated on the ball handler and not up close.

He totally mishandled how to play Wade on the two early fouls that he picked up on Friday. Of course Wade is not that easy to guard one on one for anyone but Johnson needs to learn when he is beat and give up on a play and not make a risky defensive move that most likely will result in an unncessary foul and possibly a three point play the old way.

I know that he has the "no one scores on me going to the basket" mentality but sometimes you just have to let the guy go in and score especially when he has you beat or in a bad defesnsive location.

I know that he has the “no one scores on me going to the basket” mentality but sometimes you just have to let the guy go in and score especially when he has you beat or in a bad defesnsive location.
