If you want to catch-up on the game tonight, check the uber pre-game thread.
This week in The Doctor Is In, I look at the *new* defensive schemes of the Triano regime and their effectiveness 10 games into the season. Newcomer Hedo Turkoglu and returning Raptor Jose Calderon have their games deconstructed in “hot or not”. We examine the late possessions in Phoenix, Triano’s reliance of Turkoglu, the importance of not giving up the big quarter and more.
In the ever exciting game of Would you make this deal? we explore the rumours of a Bosh-Wade hook up in Miami, on that note, make sure to vote in the poll below.

Can’t make that deal Steve, the deal will work for me if we get 3 1st round picks, 2nd round
picks, and Beasley. Miami will be over the cap this year with O’Neal, Wade, and Bosh, but
O’Neal will be gone and his money will feed Wade’s and Bosh’s pockets, and Joel Anthony
will be a cheap garbage-man center to only collect lose balls, block shots, and rebound
for put-backs which he excels at.
Trading Bosh to Miami will guarantee that the Raptors will be headed for the lottery multiple
times. If this is the case, in summer 2010, we better be stocked with draft picks in the 1st
and 2nd round and getting rid of Jim Kelly because he annoys me. Also we can get more
players from very money-first before basketball teams (PHX, Golden State, Memphis) if we
trade Marcus Banks. If Bargs explodes at the 4, who the hell will collect our rebounds at
the 5? Pops? Rasho? Reggie?
good point- but it is still an interesting offer and one Ive heard rumbling around
more than once.
as for PHX. GS, or Memp- Ill get to each of those spaces in coming weeks.
After the capt jack trade and with all the moving monta ellis talk, GS seems
like a good choice for next weeks podcast!
Monta Ellis didn’t just damage his leg in the mo-ped, I think he bumped his
head as well pretty hard, which explains all his useless talking.
at least you got rid of “sexy voice”
lol! too true.
Booooooo …. phdsteve’s podcasts need more “sexy voice”. Something to keep the listener’s attention. Terrible career move Steve by changing to something more masculine. ;)
It must be conceded that Bosh will not be a Raptor for the 2010-11 season because:
1. BC and the MLSE will not finance one player to the tune of $125+ Million in the Toronto/Canada market. It’s just not a good investment considering the makeup of the team and it’s future potential. It must also be conceded that the current Raptors will not be a high playoff team in the near or far future … so why have a max money player hogging all the money. The future Raptor teams will have a large Euro component that reflects the multiculti nature of Toronto, and the fans will be happy with that.
2. Bosh has most likely advised BC that he wants out of Toronto, but on the best basis for both parties. Bosh wants to get max money offers from other teams, but not necessarily from the Raptors. To achieve that goal, Bosh must shine outstanding as an all-star PF and C … and that is what is happening now. Bosh cannot see his future playing on a nominal NBA team filled with Euros … that’s just not what he envisages for the remainder of this NBA career … he wants to play on a legitimate contending playoff team and that exclude the Toronto Raptors. A mid-season trade would ameliorate the departure of Bosh from the Raptors and give him an opportunity to further max out his potential.
Those who observe Bosh and the Raptors from afar, can see things a lot more clearly than emotionally charged Raptor fans … fans who loved Mighty Mouse Stodamire, Vince Carter, and now Chris Bosh … but the NBA is a business and the players attempt to optimize their careers, both financially and personally. I believe Bosh has already made his decision to leave the Raptors, and now it’s only a matter of time for both parties to create a win-win situation.
FAQ, you bore and annoy everyone who reads you
why make the same point 100 times? we get it. just stop. please stop.
it’s not a matter of right or wrong, but more your obsession with saying the same thing 28384848 different ways.
PLEASE JUST STOP WRITING. thanks.
Long time reader, infrequent contributor as of late.
FAQ, given that you are a mind reader, omnipotetent and all knowing, (seeing how you know what Bosh and BC are thinking and doing), could you tell me the winning #’s for the MAX lottery, and what my 2009 bonus will be.
Thanks in advance.
To: Dan & DG …. FOAD U DPOS …!!!!
wow…pre-pubescent angst in its finest form
“It must also be conceded that the current Raptors will not be a high playoff team in the near or far future…”
How can you presume anything in the far future? I’m pretty sure Colangelo is not planning to fail year after year.
You’re like the anti-Doug Smith. According to him there is always 0% of a change happening ( cough…Smitch…sign and trade…Pops…cough)and according to you there is always 100% of a change happening.
The only thing we can actually concede is that BC and Bosh have had discussions about Bosh’s future and both are open to helping the other get as much as they can – if he stays or if he goes. We can concede this because BC has openly admitted as much. Anyting else is just speculation.
So many people “conceded” that Nash would not re-sign in Phoenix and that he would follow Dantoni. Yeah…
Anyway, personally I still think a lot will be based on how the Raps do this year. I don’t think Bosh has actually decided yet. But at least he seems to be open with Colangelo so hopefully we don’t get Mcgrady’d.
Soooooo obvious.
Michael Beasley hasn’t shown enough ability yet. A lot of untapped potential there but dubious signs of him fulfilling it (the lack of rebounding, the defense, the inefficient scoring, the lack of passing). Beasley is a high risk prospect. Too high a risk to be worth giving up a talent of Bosh’s caliber.
Haslem is fairly unimportant here. He’s just an expiring contract. An unrestricted free agent in a few months time. The first round pick will likely be in the 15-19 range which has some solid value but not enough to change the end decision on a trade.
Lack of elite talent, or chances of one of the assets resulting in an elite talent (either Beasley’s development or the draft pick), in the offering … no interest in the trade.
I agree, I think there’s too much pressure/responsibility on Hedo Turkoglu to be the fourth quarter guy.
Hedo Turkoglu is the guy who who creates a true balance between the other options — Bosh + Bargnani + Calderon + Hedo — with his mix of scoring ability + passing ability. He rounds out the Raptors offense and helps make it devastatingly effective.
The Raptors should just continue to run their normal offense late in games rather than putting it all on Hedo’s back … I think that would be more effective.
Also, if Hedo Turkoglu is to be used as a fourth quarter option … he needs to be used in high pick and rolls for his passing/scoring rather than isolation plays. Turkoglu is not an effective isolation based scorer but he is a very good pick and roll player (either by scoring himself or helping create space/shots for other players).
I too think we could do better than the proposed Miami trade.
FAQ – Interesting theories. You could be right. Obvious statement time, but fans need reminding – just because you have cap space to sign a maximum contract player doesn’t mean you have to. Too often fans, and some GM’s, treat maximum contract space like some expiring gift card at the Home Depot.
It doesn’t have to be. If the player available to sign isn’t a maximum contract player in your mind as a GM and team, you can wait, keep the cap space for future signings, deals or trades. And I think maximum contract should be given to only the elite few – Wade, Lebron, Howard, Kobe … – “superstars” who bring consistent results like long playoff runs, championships, merchandise sales, television contracts … not to the next tier of “great” players – the category Bosh falls into in my opinion.
Ask yourselves this question: “Why would an American superstar max player want to play in Toronto Canada for the next 6 years … and with this bunch of Euro players and dispensable rejects from other U.S. teams???”
These superstars don’t just play for the money, the play for championships and fame in their home country. There is nothing in Toronto that would induce a max money American superstar to play for the Raptors … and the t.h. fans can forget about their outpouring of “love” for their beloved hero.
What BC will most likely be doing is picking up several good players with the departure of Bosh … because the coaching philosophy will be team play and not dependent on one all-star player to make the Raptors a playoff contending team.
Say bye bye to Bosh, because he’s going for max money with an American team … sooner or later … believe it.
Good listen.
You can do with out all the sound bytes, they just sound tacky.
agreed!!! Man I think I am a hater tho
ritchie you’re a jerk-off
stay classy.
the little douchebag sits beside me at work
Then I retract my demand for a RR studio.
As it was …. carry on.
I guess we should speed up the process of building the new Raptors Republic studio equipped with all the bells & whistles and a sound engineer. Can you please hurry that up RapsFan? ;)
Forget miami go after Noah and Deng for Bosh that line up would be much better.
C-Noah
PF-Bargnani
SF- Deng
SG- Turk
PG- Calderon
Bench
Derozan, Belllini, Evans, Wright and Johnson
Deng and Turkoglu play the same position, no need for both. Also, having Bargnani play PF freaks me out. he doesn’t have the defensive foot speed (from what I’ve seen so far) to keep up with more active 4’s in the league.
i hear monta ellis is on the block… how about we deal them reggie evans, POB and Marcus banks and get ellis in return… he is exactly the type of player we need… all offence
