Toronto Raptors (33-49)
New Accusations: Marco Belinelli, Amir Johnson, Sonny Weems, Reggie Evans, Hedo Turkoglo, Jarret Jack and Antoine Wright
Rookie/Rookies: Demar Derozan 1st round (9th pick)

The busiest team this summer getting a handful of new players filling up half of the team but the most notable player would have to be Hedo who delivered Orlando its second visit to the NBA finals. I can say they got the steal of the draft on Demar Derozan a freak athlete who can provide the intensity and needed offense at 6-foot-7 he could have benefited another year in college but opt to go to the NBA to take care of his mother’s illness that’s why he slid down to the ninth pick. Gelling will be the Raptors main problem with 8 new faces in their roster but with still two months to go that won’t be a problem.

NESN

Here’s a sentence I haven’t had to write in a long time (perhaps ever): The Toronto Raptors will be scary this season.

Yes, yes, I know. They were the laughingstock of the Atlantic Division in 2008-09 (along with the Knicks), finishing 33-49 and haven’t advanced past the first round of the playoffs since 2001 — and they have never been past the second.

And the Raptors were just as bad as that sounds last season, ranking 16th in offense and 20th in defense. They managed just 40 rebounds a game and hit six 3-pointers per game, the seventh-worst mark in the league.

So what gives? Much.

Marcus Banks from the Toronto Raptors just showed up at the V Bar! Smoke and Sound Tuesday blowin up! Come to the VBar in the Venetian!

Golden State Of Mind

Andris Biedrins + Speedy Claxton + Acie Law to the Toronto Raptors for…

Chris Bosh [ESPN Trade Machine]

Raptors get: To save themselves from the embarrassment of Bosh ditching them on the open market in the summer of 2010.

Warriors get: A great young starry eyed power forward.

  1. DanH says:

I accuse all those new players!!! Newest accusations! He he.

GSOM may want to try throwing in something else of value… the Babcock days are gone.

    • GSOM: Biedrins, Speedy, Acie… No.

      • J says:

I knew there was a reason we should have kept Ukic: to stop idiotic people from looking at our team and declaring, “Toronto really needs a 3rd and 4th string PG, so this deal for Acie and Speedy will really benefit them!” Can you imagine how much worse the rumors would get if we traded Banks for another wing?

        • Is “Speedy” Claxton still playing? And is he still “speedy”.

Acie Law, was he still playing for ATL last season? He definitely didn’t set the league on fire. Hell, he’d need to take up smoking first.

Biedrins is a player I covet in exchange for our junk, not our prime rib.

  2. Hardcore Raps says:

I wanted to laugh at the GSofM trade… and well I did because its so crappy…. but then I got thinking of a few I see from Raps fans occasionally and realized that fans simply shouldn’t ponder trade ideas.

    • Hardcore Raps says:

ok so I just went through their entire trade list….. simply amazing!

    • Marz says:

Yeah it’s rare that a fan is able to see both sides of the fence. But no one’s as bad as laker fans…

      • G says:

well they did get Pau Gasol for garbage. and won a championship because of it. so maybe its not so crazy of lakers fans to dream up zany trades.

        • Steve says:

The Griz are one of the teams that’s speculated to be losing tons of money and Pau Gasol wasn’t bringing in the fans (not his fault) – so they dumped him for his much cheaper brother. Following the theory, if you have to lose, try and lose less money!

Of course what the Griz did this off season makes no sense whatsoever. In effect, they’ve ended up trading Pau Gasol for Zach?

It would have been nice if they could’ve dumped in Toronto but the Raps didn’t have an expiring contract or trade exception big enough to be in the running.

  3. G says:

lol if Bosh wont re-sign in Toronto after the year. He sure as Hell would not resign in Golden State. people who write that garbage really need to get better things to talk about.

  4. Steve says:

It’s kinda fun to read comments and stories from desperate fans thinking they can trade their average players and junk for all-stars.

Maybe they should speculate they can get LeBron or Wade or Carmelo for their cast offs too! (Except in GSW, you know they’d really trade for Joe Johnson because Nellie wants to run a team consisting of 5 guards!)

It may possible, if unlikely for the moment, that CB4 could be traded.

But Colangelo isn’t a rookie GM and MLSE isn’t broke or losing money – any trade will have to bring real value back to the Raptors.

  5. Ellipses says:

LAWL. Biendrins, Claxton, and Law for Bosh? The writer at Golden State of Mind is failing, as usual. Nice sentiment, though, trying to save us the “embarrassment of Bosh ditching us” by wanting to take that embarrassment themselves.

Of course, has it ever occured to them that the Raptors would then have 17 players on their roster? Unless I missed something.

    • DanH says:

Well, following their logic, the Raps would obviously buy out Turkoglu and Bargnani’s full contracts to avoid the embarassment of them possibly underperforming.

  6. Anon says:

kinda ridiculous to trade Bosh to contracts that extend beyond 2010 (I’m assuming I didn’t bother looking it up) in the WORST case we have cap room which is good
and even if those contracts expired at 2010 what’s the point in making your opponent stronger without gaining anything?

  7. darthjudd says:

terrible trade for the raptors. If Bosh decided he wants to leave BC will pull off some sort of sign n trade to make sure the raptors dont lose him for nothing, but they still wont get market value.
if that trade did happen the raptors could have the first all white boy line up since the 50’s
calderon, belinelli, turk, bargnani and biedrins

  8. Mark says:

The problem with every fan trade is they are always trying to get a good player for the guys that don’t play on their team. i.e. Laker fans propose a trade of Morrison, Sasha and Walton for…. Toronto fans should be saying douby, Banks, O’Bryant for…. The more realistic fans throw in a 2nd rounder to sweeten the pot. The Lakers 60th pick is a hot commodity in their eyes. Other teams don’t want useless players anymore than the team that has them now.! Lakers fans get a pass because they have reason to believe that you can get an ALl Star for guys out of the rotation. See Pau Gasol trade.

  9. RapsAllDayErrDay says:

Andris Biedrins + Speedy Claxton + Acie Law for chris bosh?are u f***ing kidding me?hhahahahahha funniest joke i’ve ever heard!that’s never going to happen.bosh is never going to be traded and if he does want to leave the raps,BC will work out a sign-and-trade.But Andris Biedrins + Speedy Claxton + Acie Law for chris bosh hahahahahaah can’t get over it!!!!!!!

  10. anon. says:

Loving the two-part Chisolm interview with Jay Triano. That’s a great read.

“I’ve found in coaching that it’s the quality of those guys, the ones who bust their ass every day in practice trying to get to that second string, that make your team, because now the second guys have to bust their ass to not lose their spot and in doing that they make our starters compete on a daily basis” -Triano

This really stood out for me. The fact that he challenged Bosh already by saying that Evans is going to lock him down in practice already says to me that the starters are going to be pushed in practice like they haven’t been in quite a while.
