If BC wants Jrue Holday, then why cant he trade down and get him in the 15-20 range, as well as getting an additional secind round pick or a role player.

    • phdsteve says:

because no way Holiday slips past 13. He could go as high as 4 to SACTO and teams like Minny, GS, NY, and MIL all are also interested. If he slipped to INDY, they would be doing back flips.

They could trade down and still get a good guard like Lawson or Maynor.

But I agree, that might be the best course of action- depending on who’s available at 9 and what the “role” player looks like.

  2. verbatim says:

    Slightly off-topic rant:

How is any team going to compete in the East this year when the Cavaliers are acquiring Shaquille O’Neal and, spending almost $100 million in payroll, just to keep LeBron in Cleveland?

No organization, including LA spends like this firggin’ team. And along come the Raptors and say that we would like to be under the cap and under the luxury tax and still be competitive? No f’n way man. Be competitive through the draft? Not possible – not anymore – not with Cleveland spending stupid amounts of money.

And, Cleveland is making sure that some of their bigger contracts expire at the same time as LeBron, so they can offer LeBron a max contract AND make Bosh the maximum offer they can make. With a team willing to spend like this, we can only hope they go bankrupt with their model of doing business (not going to happen unless LeBron leaves in 2010, making Cleveland irrelevant).

And we can’t go over the luxury tax? Come on.

    • shats says:

Cleveland is the American Real Madrid and like Madrid, they still won’t win anything

    • dsl says:

Cleveland signing Shaq remind me of the Raps signing The Dream. When you let your players play GM, bad things happen.

      • Marc says:

Good call. I’m not sure this trade will work out for them. Shaq needs some help on the inside, which he does not have in Cleveland

  3. phdsteve says:

hey verbatim, I totally agree that coming under the cap and trying to win a title usually dont go together- but lets also be raelistic about Shaq to Cleveland- its a pretty useless deal- other than being symbolic- Shaq adds nothing to that team.

Infact, its actually a bad deal because Cleveland could have used those contracts to get a guy like Jefferson who would actually help this team/ Cleveland’s biggest issue wasnt a lack of size- it was not having another guy other than Lebron who could make a shot.

spending money doesnt guarentee anything…just ask the knicks.

    • tonious35 says:

** DING DING DING DING *** THEY SHOULD OF GOT Jefferson last YEAR with their 2 USELESS PLAYERS and near EXPIRING CONTRACTS!!! –> WALLY and BEN WALLACE.

    • dsl says:

Remember that championship winning line-up that featured Shaq, Kobe, Karl Malone & Gary Payton? Oh right…

      • khandor says:

But for the untimely injuries which that Lakers team … with Shaq, Malone, Kobe, Payton, Fisher, George, etc. … sustained during the WC playoffs, they would have beaten the Detroit pistons to claim their 4th championship.

        • Marc says:

Total BS. The Lake-show was falling apart at the seams. LA might have had more talent but Detroit was the better TEAM.

I’m surprised to hear this from a die-hard Joe D apologist.

          • khandor says:

You are certainly entitled to your own opinion.

However … here are the Box Scores from that FINALS.

            Malone played … 44 minutes in Game 1 [L], 39 minutes in Game 2 [W], 18 minutes in Game 3 [L], 21 minutes in Game 4 [L], and 0 minutes in Game 5 [L].

You don’t have to look far to see the impact his injury had on the eventual outcome of that series.

The Pistons were very good, no doubt … to capitalize on the situation.

In my book, Joe Dumars is a Top Notch GM, with the know-how it takes to build a championship team.

  4. pfgtre says:

Apparently B.C. has told DeRozan that if he is around at 9(which he will be) than the Raptors will take him. So better start getting used to DeMar DeRozan.

    • d279 says:

Where did you hear this? about DD

    • I think DeRozan (and Evans) will be gone by 9 – see TWolves). I also think GS will take Curry and the Knicks will take Flynn.

With all those guys off the board, BC will be left to choose between: Holiday, Henderson and Johnson.

If this happens, I think BC will pick James “The Axe” Johnson. (Ya dun know!) ;)

      • RYE says:

With all those guys gone Jordan Hill will be there at 9 or Harden because Sacramento ain’t taking either of those 2.

  5. Sam says:

And if Cleveland doesn’t win a title (or at least make the finals) this coming season, does all that cap space really swing Lebron? Other teams will be able to sign Lebron and another star next summer and will have a few pieces on their roster to say to the King, “look what we already have”. Cleveland, on the other hand, will be able to show Lebron a pile of cash and say, “you get a lot of this and, trust us, we’ll sign some other good guys after you take your share”. Since he’s getting his share wherever he goes doesn’t the team he’s going to have to show talent on the roster already?

The best move, in my opinion, for the summer of 2010 is to have cap flexibility and some assets already on the roster to further entice free agents. Cleveland seems to think all they need is cash. Could be a big mistake.

Oh, and maybe they’ll chase Marion this summer.

  6. RYE says:

BREAKING NEWS: The Toronto Raptors have traded Chris Bosh to the LA Clippers for the #1 pick and Marcus Camby. The Raptors have also traded Jose Calderon to Memphis for the #2 pick.

    • pfgtre says:

      Awesome.

      • RYE says:

“THIS JUST IN: The Toronto Raptors have agreed to a sign & trade for Shwan Marion with the Chicogo Bulls for the 16th and 26th picks. The Raptors now have the 1st, 2nd, 9th, 16th and 26th picks in the draft.”

        Sweet

        Rubio
        Henderson
        DeRozan
        Griffin
        Bargs
