Reggie Evans is clearly the best rebounder and most physical player of the bunch, even if he isn’t a skilled offensive threat. He’s easily the back-up power forward. On a running team, you might get away with him at center for short runs. But you have to ask yourself: was Evans acquired to be a back-up or to be the enforcer next to the less physical Bargnani, whom they seem to want to use at a center?
What could the Raptors want in return for Bosh? Depending on what happens with Shawn Marion, other than Bargnani, their best remaining player would be Jose Calderon. Figure they’re looking for help at shooting guard and small forward if Bosh is indeed being shopped. (And history says this will happen during the season, if not right now.)
9. Toronto SG DeMar DeRozan, USC 6-6, 220
Comment: This pick makes sense for the Raptors, who really need an athletic wing. DeRozan is one of the best athletes in the draft and a tremendous talent. He struggled some in agility drills and has had questionable workouts. He can jump but isn’t super fast. He’s just a bit raw and will need to work on his jumper and overall game.
Even though the Cleveland Cavaliers won 66 games in the regular season, they have no intention of standing pat. Their aspirations are higher than a recent loss in the NBA Eastern Conference finals.
Team officials have identified their primary needs as more size — preferably a big man who can shoot — and a shooting guard who also has size. Detroit’s Rasheed Wallace is on the free-agent market and could fill the first need, although he will be 35 in September. The 6-foot-11 Wallace averaged 12 points and 7.4 rebounds last season, even though he didn’t seem to have his heart in it.
Anthony Parker, a 6-6 guard who has shown a good three-point touch the past three seasons with Toronto, could also be on the radar. Cleveland tried to sign him in 2006 when he returned from overseas and went with the Raptors.
While the NBA Finals and NBA Draft are grabbing all the headlines in the basketball world, the possible departure of Toronto Raptors forward Chris Bosh may end up becoming one of the biggest offseason stories. He stated he will not re-sign with the team and is likely on the outs.
This continues a long standing tradition of Toronto’s star players leaving stateside. Here are the top five:
9) Toronto: Demar DeRozen (Highlights) – DeRozen had a slow start in college but was one of the best players in the country in the last 1/4 of the season. DeRozen has the physical tools to transition quickly to the NBA but at 19 he still needs to develop some of the finer points of the game. DeRozen will give the Raptors the best wing player they have had since the departure of Vince Carter.
67 Raps
I could see Evans starting some games, if just for presence and to set the tone, but regardless of when he plays (starting or off the bench), I can’t imagine him being on the floor more than 25 minutes per game.
best bosh trade ever says: Jun 11, 2009 at 7:15 pm
I like Chris Bosh but:
Phoenix is trying to save money.
Toronto is trying to build a great team.
Trade:
Toronto sends: Chris Bosh, rights to Carlos Delino or a sign and trade with Delfino, Joey Graham (sign and trade), Marcus Banks
To Phoenix for: Amare Stoudamire, Jason Richardson
Why Phoenix would do this: Quite simple they want to save a lot money over the next 2 years, by sheding J Richs 13 millionish contract. If the Raps were to sign J graham to a 1 year contract only, they would two expiring contracts in Graham,Delfino and Bosh of course and have only Banks 4.8mil on the books in 2 years.
Amare is unlikely to stay and by trading him for Bosh they save some face depending if they traded Shaq which I am sure they will try they would have a team like this:
Nash
Barbosa
Hill/Barnes
Bosh
Shaq
and a below average bench which would should be upgraded but most likely would not due to them trying to conserve money they could get a rotation player in the draft as well.
Why Toronto would do this: Getting Amare to go with Andrea would be a much nicer inside/outside fit (I love Amare) I would take him over Bosh personaly any day if both healty which they both are not always. Phoenix would insist J rich being in on the deal which sure he is overpaid but he is still a starting SG or at worse a solid 6th man (on the Raps he would start and be an upgrade at 2 hopefully)
Toronto could look like this
Jose
J Rich
Marion
Andrea
Amare
Call either (Andrea/Amare) a center or PF we all know on offence Amare would be inside and Andrea out.
Bench
Rasho
Evans
Solid draft pick (Evans, Derozan, Flynn, Curry, Etc)
Parker
Ukic
F.A
I think this trade or something similar could be constructed this offseason maybe we have to flip them first round picks hopefully not.
basically the deal would be Bosh + fillers for Amare + JRich.
The key is some of the fillers have to be expiring contracts thus the sing and trade most by one year deals only. Like Joey Graham would say no to a 3-4mil one year deal.
Bonus trade:
Raptors would love to dump Banks contract.
THe Hump may now be expandable due to Reggie Evans trade.
If I said we get a decent back up PG for these 2 with the salaries and years remaining on all contracts being equal we would all agree this would be a good move I am assuming. reasonable people so Khandor not included.
Trade:
Raps send Hump/Banks to Pacers for Jamal Tinsley.
Ok I know he is a head case but maybe he has learned his lesson after being banished last year. I actually think he would be a good backup and at times outplay Jose.
Do we want to pay a backup PG 7 mil a year for 2 years? off course not.
But the fact is we have Banks at 4.5 this year and 4.8 next and Hump make 3 millish therefore the salaries work.
Could backfire and he could be a cancer so you banish him and you lose Hump for basically nothing so its a gamble but could be a good one…
Pacers basically get Hump for nothing because there stuck with Tinsley 7mill contract and he is not going to play for them. Banks just gets passed around like a fat three paper…Puff Puff Pass mother fucker…
no,no,no,no,no to the tinsley trade. He is a team killer and an asshole. At least hump can provide some useful minutes without being a distraction
One of our weaknesses is defense, so why trade a half decent defender in Bosh (I’m being nice here), and three pretty good defenders in Delfino, Graham and Banks for Amar’e and Richardson? These two guys hardly play any defense.
Getting drafted by the lugubrious Ratpors must be a demotivating thought in the minds of the top 10 draft pick rookies … I mean how many decent college bballers want to join this pathetic roster going towards 2010?
When Bosh was drafted by the Ratpors, there was a semi-decent group of players to depend on … but now the roster is a mixed bag of misfits.
Don’t be surprised if the Ratpor’s draft pick doesn’t smile much when called up on the stage to shake Stern’s hand.
… as opposed to crying, weeping and sobbing when a player gets picked by Memphis, Sacramento or the Clippers?
sad. but true.
Yeah seriously would young wing player would want to play for a Gm who has won two executives of the year, a four time all star power foward, an up and coming star in Andrea and a good PG, with a solid veteran like Marion.
Moron!!!!
When you get picked high in the draft top 12 most teams are in a bad shape. I am sure they are more excited that they are going to rich and making millions and don’t have the negative thoughts that you might have.
Were in better shape then most teams in the lottery.
Toronto is a world class city. Sure most draft elligible players may not know how good of a city Toronto is but there agent will be sure to tell them and once they are here they will realize it is one of the better NBA cities to live in.
Yes Toronto is a great city but does Demar Derozen want to play for a team that I’m sure he knows by now, is owned by a teachers group? That Bosh and Marion might be leaving? That we are the softest team in the League? Why would be want to be apart of that.
Also, in Toronto he would get barely any exposure like he would in the US. No exposure means no $$.
The Clippers are in the biggest market in the world.
Sacremento has great weather.
Your bias because your Canadian so Obv you’d choose TO but American players don’t want to come here.
Why would being owned by a teachers pension plan have anything to do with a drafted player’s willingness to come to Toronto? It’s not like they’ve got Ms. Bliss in the locker room giving out pop quizzes and Mr. Belding handing down detentions. The owner shouldn’t make that much of a difference. The Clippers are owned by a racist asshole who has driven the team into the ground over and over again, yet I don’t see Blake Griffin bolting in the other direction.
Regardless, Derozan isn’t good enough to dictate where he gets to play. He’ll play for whoever picks him, whether he “wants” to go there or not. By the time he’s up to re-sign, the on-court situation will likely be significantly different, and he will have learned a lot about the city/market he’s playing in, as well as a lot about being a professional ball player and “responsible” adult.
The guy wants to be an NBA player, so he’s going to go whereever he is told to go and work hard to become a top notch player. Look at Bosh. You think he was doing backflips when he got drafted up here? He’d never left the very southern states before, and he was coming into a pretty bad situation in Toronto. It didn’t matter. He worked on his game, became an all star player, and (allegedly) fell in love with the city. I would expect Derozan, or almost anyone else we draft, to do the same.
+1
+24
bah! your well-written & thoughtful analysis of the situation has no place here!
lol…ROTD!
weren’t you kissing my ass 2 days ago?
Relax. Take your Zanax and calm down. Your about to cry over a reply LOL
What are you even talking about?
I guess that’s my fault. Probably should have known better than to expect even a semi-intelligent response from you. It seems anytime people bring up facts or reasoned arguments in response to one of your points, you shoot back with something totally unrelated to the discussion. Afraid to get involved in a debate with people who actually know the first thing about the game of basketball?
They have a choice they can come here and play for millions or holdout and make nothing. I have no American bias but If Bosh and Marion leave there will be good players coming back in excahnge.
You really are the worst poster on this site, Its really sad actually the shit that you type.
if only it were so simple. They probably know if they were drafted and refused to report, the team who drafted them could simply flip them somewhere else. Plus, I assume that the salary would apply to the cap.
If more teams were like Indy and just not play a pissed off player, the league would be beautiful.
Altraps I disagree, if a player drafted refuses to report he does not get paid, he is more likely to come to camp and have his agent tell the GM he is not happy here and would like to be traded but you don;t see many players holdout in there rookie years or demand trades at that point. The truth is with the rookie scale contracts there are more worried about being drafted as high as possible becasue the higher they are drated the more money they make until the become free agents.
Look it’s not like if you goet drafted by the Raps you have to spend the rest of your life here. It’s 3 or 4 seasons, 8 months at a time in Toronto and then your free to go wherever the want, if that team wants to sign them off course.
WOW………… sorry should have proof read by you get my point
He does not get paid and the team goes without that talent or replacement for a season? Maybe, but I doubt it, especially someone in the top 20. If nothing else, the players union would be in the GMs face requesting movement of some sort.
I do see your point, but once they have an agent, school is a no go and most of these kids don’t have the money or the agent to get a good gig in Europe. Not to mention, historically you’d have a tough time finding players that simply said no and walked away to do nothing after being drafted.
(and, for the record, you simply said what I did. He just has to report, raise a get-drafted-by-Vancouver-but-don’t-want-to-play-there level stink and move on)
LOL LOL LOL
Agreed
saying a college player would’nt want to play in toronto is insane! no exposure! insane!! i seem to remember vince carter becoming a pretty big f%^$^n star playing for toronto. didnt he get the most votes for the all star game 2 years in a row?? didnt damon staudamire win rookie of the year and then fall off the earth?? and then theres the free agent contract t mac got after playing in toronto! i would say the tdot has been a pretty great launch pad for alot of guys including chris bosh whom alot of you say isnt worth the hype or the max money hes going to get when he leaves toronto. for a guy that alot of you say is overrated i’d say he did pretty well here.
” no exposure means no dollars” “you’re bias cause you’re canadian” i think you’re bias cause you’re an idiot and you dont know what you’re talking about and you dont think before you type Nostra..the raptors are a fine organization in a great city sto hating on the tdot because i dont think anyone else is.
I said Toronto was a great city you fucking moron
I said the ownership is attrocious and people know that, even draft pics. They do their research you idiot.
Maybe you applied too colleges without reserching the school I don’t know
If its based on ownership then why did you support the Clippers. Donald Sterling is a true retard and asshole
Seriously no-body wants Amare the man child in a Raps uniform???
The guy would be a much better fit with Andrea then Bosh.
Phoenix would love to cut costs.
Raps starting
Jose
J Rich
Marion
Amare
Andrea
Would this not be atleast a top 4 team in the East. Last time I checked Atlanta was the 4th seed and I would take this team over Atlanta’s.
Opinions please!!!!
defense at PF and C would struggle
Amare can’t create his shot as well as Bosh, he can’t rebound (or doesn’t want to), he can only roll to the basket and dunk or sometimes hit a jump shot. His defense is even worse than Bosh’s. Jason Richarsdon is okay, but does not play defense either.Phoenix might make the trade, but I don’t think BC would. BTW I wonder what would happen when Shaq first plays with Bosh :)

Oh Good lord. You stupid fucking idiot
I WAS TALKING ABOUT DRAFT PICKS
DRAFT PICKS
DRAFT PICKS
DRAFT PICKS
I NEVER TALKED ABOUT WHO WOULD WE TRADE FOR BOSH
Literally hilarious.
He was talking about draft picks too genius. He’s saying that if Bosh and Marion go, there will be decent players/picks coming back in return, and as such, your “Bosh and Marion might be leaving” point will be mitigated. The draft picks, upon seeing the return we get for Bosh and Marion, would no longer be worried about Bosh and Marion leaving, because we will have gotten other assets in return. So, you see, the prospect of Bosh and Marion leaving will have little impact on the desire of draftees to come to Toronto.
If you’d like me to explain it further, I could give you a detailed analysis of how both the trade process and the free agency process work. Just say the word boss!
What’s the difference between a draft pick and someone already playing in the NBA. They’re all players. So Cosa’s defense doesn’t make sense, even though it was already a stupid defense to begin with
More importantly, as a a professional sports player (in any league) your goal is to get time to actually play in a game. The Raps draft picks in the past (VC, T-Mac, Bosh, Stoudemire, Charlie V, etc…) because the Raps give them time to play. DeMar DeRozan would be dumb to NOT want t oocme Toronto because their serious lack of depth at the position he plays all but guarantees him a significant amount of minutes on a team that recently, and should be again this year, been projected finish with home court advantage in the first round of the playoffs. What more could he ask for? Oh ya, an entire country supporting your team instead of 29 other cities within the same country. Fans = money, and the Raps have an entire country of fans, not fragments of a city.
Opinions?
Calderon + J-Richardson + Marion + A-Stoudemire + Bargnani
vs
Mike Bibby + Joe Johnson + Marvin Williams + Josh Smith + Al Horford
is NOT tilted towards the Raptors … if/when you consider the Defense & Rebounding capabilities of those 10 players together with their Offense.
It’s precisely that type of thinking which has gotten the Raptors into their current mess in the first place.
I agree for once with you. I like the second team better
I would agree the defensively The hawks would be better however I believe we would be better offensively and win more games then Atlanta.
Amare is a better fit for these Raps then Bosh. Defensively it is close with Bosh getting a slight nod, however Amare is a beast and cannot be stopped offensively and is more physiacal and has the ability to dominate. Dominate the glass as well.
Last I checked, the winner of a game was not determined by # of rebounds.
That Raps line up is the better team. Significantly. We’d be an offensive powerhouse like the Suns of old. It’s not gonna win us any championships, but it’ll help us beat middling teams like the Atlanta Hawks.
I don’t know if it’s necessarily tilted in Toronto’s favor, but it’s fairly close. And fairly close with a 2nd round playoff team AFTER trading away Bosh? I’d take that in a second if we’re set on trading him.
Although it is possible that we could build a better team around Bosh if we re-sign him, which I assume would be your preference.
plus who really wants j-rich? the dude is a chem killer….
and he loves to drive drunk.
Let me say something to you idiots who might be offended but whatever:
nobody wants to play in toronto. not because of the city but because of the teams culture. losing for 14 years and our ownership is doing it to make money only. you think players don’t know this? what planet are you living on? LOL
AGAIN. I never said the City was bad. No. It’s not bad. It’s the bets in North America
BUT THE TEAM SUCKS
Just because some of you losers love it heer doesn’t mean Americans do.
YOU UNDERSTAND.
And Im not going anywhere anytime soon so deal with it.
The reason players don’t want to come here (and that only applies to free agents, by the way. Let me know the first time a Raptors draft pick doesn’t show up) has nothing to do with “THE TEAM SUCKS” or “ownership is doing it to make money only”
It’s just a generally held belief amongst Americans that Canada is a “different” (in a bad way, I suppose) place. We discussed this the other day. There is an anti-Canada bias to some degree, due to the fact that it is a relatively unknown place to a lot of these guys. That bias is perpetuated by the media, and the NBA players of the future read/watch the stuff, and that just makes it worse.
So in a sense, you’re kinda sorta right on this, in that the city of Toronto itself has nothing to do with it.
But you stull said that players would prefer to pay in Sacramento and the CLippers, who are terrible teams, so much worse than the raptors. It’s hard to take you serioulsy when you can’t spell “here.”
Now to the Bryan colangelo Kiss ASS….
No one gives a shit if he won 2 EOTY. What does eh have to show for it? Nothing. People know Colangelo is a salesman and not a winner. Watch some ESPN and educate yourself.
Until then shut up because you know nothing about basketball
cosa – as someone entering an MBA program, i would think that you’d have a greater ability to have a discussion with someone who’s opinion differs from your own without threatening physical violence. of course, i’d also assume that someone entering such a program would be able to string together two sentences devoid of multiple spelling/grammatical errors. mind you, i could care less…i just find it ironic that someone without comprehension of basic conjunction calls others idiots.
that being said…feel free to continue with your douchebaggery. i have no doubt that you really, truly aren’t going anywhere…
It’s the internet who cares man. Alot of brilliant people have bad tempers too BTW . If your smart your smart.
I say Bosh is not that good trade him for a star 2 or 3 and everyone jumps on me. I think he’s garbage and loser with no charisma, that’s my opinion. Don’t like it don’t reply
the ‘internet’ cares? wow, you’ve certainly got the ego for an MBA.
well, if everyone who disagreed didn’t reply, there’d be no discussion, no blog, no point…right?
as for bosh – i’m not sure it’s accurate to state that ‘everyone’ jumps on you for suggesting the raps trade bosh for a star 2/3 – in fact, that’s pretty much been a common opinion among many, for various reasons.
‘you are’ = ‘you’re’
oh, and constant use of hyperbole waters down your arguments.
Hyperbole? Hmmm
Getting beat by every PF in the L every night. Calling out Fans. 1 winning season in 6 years (when the rest of the L was injured)
Making youtube videos getting stoned and appearing in malls ignoring kids for autographs
Yep Im exaggerating.
Trade this disgrace of a player and find a winner.
You ARE exagerrating, why can’t you get that into your head, your arguements have no balance or thoughtful thinking. Did you dream all of those things happening (especially the “getting stoned and ignoring kids” bit).
‘douchebaggery’ — pure genius yertu. that is outstanding! lol
Whatever Rodman did what he had to do and he was very successful sans a few childhood problems. I love being controversial. lol
Sorry I’m not like Bob Costas and try to be some saint. LOL
Cosa Nostra, your endless ranting takes up half the comments section. Threatening fights? Punking people’s families? it reminds me of the movie ‘A Beautiful Mind’ where dude was writing all over his walls.
Dude’s a little nutty, no one will care if he gets banned – just my 2p
did you see derrick rose picture throwing up gang signs. str8 englewood.
what about beidrins, beidrins does everything andrea doesn’t, which makes the frontcourt more defined. he can play pick and roll well and gets better every year. he would be a better offensive player if someone else besides jackson passes him the ball. i think he would be a good fit on the raps.
i really hope for a trade between the raps and golden state, not only cause its east to west, but they also got some players out there that are young and potentially good.
I agree with trade
1. Bargniani is natural PF
2. It’s better trade Bosh then walking him away
3. Biedrins one of best shot blockers and rebounders in the league
So here is potential trade that I would love to see:
To Golden State:
PF. Chris Bosh 14,410,581
PG. Marcus Banks 4,260,000
PF. Kris Humphries 3,200,000
PG. Quincy Douby 1,427,040
Cash Consideration
Total: 23,297,621
To Toronto Raptors:
C. Andris Biedrins 9,000,000
PF. Brendan Wright 2,492,320
SG. Jamal Crowford 8,640,000
PG. C.J. Watson 3,160,301 (sign and trade contract)
1st round pick (2009)
1st round pick (2010)
* either both draft picks or at least one of them
Toronto Raptors Roster (2009-2010 Season)
Starting Lineup:
PG. Jose Calderon/Roko Ukic/C.J. Watson/Jrue Holiday (9th pick)
SG. Jamal Crowford/Anthony Parker/DeMar DeRozan or Tyreke Evans or Gerald Henderson (7th pick)
SF. Shawn Marion/Carlos Delfino
PF. Andrea Bargniani/Pops Mensah-Bonsu/Reggie Evans
C. Andris Biedrins/Brendan Wright/Rasho Nesterovic
Now I know its 15 potential players but with this roster Raptors don’t have to sign Carlos Delfino and/or Rasho Nesterovic.
They also could use players like C.J. Watson, Carlos Delfino, Brendan Wright, and Rasho Nesterovic to acquire another pick for this or next years draft
Please feel free to leave any comments or suggestions :)
Sorry I forgot to mention that both trades are both worth exactly $23,297,621 million
INSERT ELLIS FOR CRAWFORD.
ANY DEAL WITH GS HAS TO INLUDE MONTA ELLIS OR YOU HANG UP THE PHONE
Golden State would not do that trade.
What do ppl think of this:
Toronto Raptors trade F Chris Bosh
for
Portland Trail Blazers F LaMarcus Aldridge, C Joel Pryzbilla and G Jerryd Bayless
I like it better than most of the deals I’ve seen tossed about. I think Bosh would sign in Portland b/c with Bosh Portland is a force. They would excel in 2 of 3 phases of the game – scoring and rebounding and would be OK on D, esp. if Oden continues to develop. I still think portland should send a pick over too. How does Bayless compare to the Raptors current set of guards?
a great trade that pritchard would never go for…
the dude is too smart.
pritchard’s on a slippery slope – he’s falling in love & overrating his players. yes, he’s got a good group of young talent, but get the impression he thinks he’s got 8 future HOFers…
anyway, i don’t think pritchard goes for that deal, because he figures he’s got LA doing ‘pretty much the same’ as bosh, at a cheaper rate, and that he’ll have to pay roy & oden shortly. he hasn’t realized yet that LA is more like bargs than like bosh….which is why i wouldn’t be interested a deal like this – i’m not sure you can get away with playing LA & bargs together. picking up pryzbilla would be fantastic, and bayless is an excellent scoring PG…but without acquiring a wing, that deal really doesn’t address their fundamental weakness(es).
now, if they could swing something for rudy…
listen guys, i hate to break your bubble about how chris bosh was’nt doing back flips when he came to T.O
American players dont know much bout toronto..or canada to be realistic here..there always gonna be like this..unless BLUE JAYS get some major market players that are heard of on every sports broadcast..or Raptors make a significant trade to catch there eye..when BOSH was braught into toronto..he came in..as a young Big..hoping to work along side one of the greatest highlight real players..in VINCE CARTER..sure VC was slippin at that time..but do you think that news was all over NORTH AMERICA? no.. it was only within GTA..that oh vince is a pussy..i think he fakes this and that..blah blah..so any ball player coming to RAptors at that point..thought of this team..the same team that once went into the playoffs..and VC vs Iverson was a NBA CLASSIC MATCHUP..and bosh thot of it as an oppertunity to potentially do great things along side VC..but as time went on..VC got traded..his problems became known issues nationally..and so on..as of right now.. Demar Derozan..is thinkin Toronto Raptors as the team which failed to make the playoffs..but see’s them with CHRIS BOSH (allstar) Shawn Marion (SUNS DAYS), and Reggie Evans..Derozan probably knows less about Andrea, Jose and the rest..
btw nostra you said no exposure no dollars which has nothing to do with the raps and everything to do with playing in toronto jerknutz. im simply saying theres been alot of players who did very well in toronto with the raptors and with exposure and that you’re an idiot…forsure…the biggest…ever….1000%
and btw im not even in canada so im just bias with you sweethart
haha nostra i dont respect your piece on ball EVER! and i like it when you defend yourself, you’re like the spazzy little kid in the school yard with poopy diapers and piss in his pants. its amazing..
you understand???
Ok so then shut up next time.
I say my piece on Ball and you respect it next time you don’t call me out and bash me thinking I wont defend myself
You understand
We’re not acting tough because we’re not the people making physcial threats to each other and trying to get their phone numbers so they can “meet on the streets.”
BTW, you are much more insulting and stupid than any other poster here (nunya is a notable exception), so don’t get pissed off when they give it back to you
Problem is half the time you don’t write about the article. You threaten people and take the piss out of Bosh even thought the article has nothing to do with him.
wow your annoying. i singed up just to tell you that
Delete the threats of violence (internet rage is often linked with man-boobs… just saying) but morning coffee’s not an article so who cares if you’re on that topic. It’s a non-topic.
