Thanks - I still remember hearing we acquired the 'best 3 point shooter' in the league (Ray Allen? Reggie Miller? Steve Kerr? Larry Bird? No, of course not. Jason Kapono, dumba$$). I still shudder thinking about that stat.

First of all, Demar Derozan isn't the one making those decisions. His agent is the one who decides where he's going to work out. The idea of not working out has nothing to do with not wanting to play here. If he didn't want to play here, he wouldn't come for an interview either.

The reasoning for it is twofold:
1) His agent knows Derozan is a lotto pick, regardless of where, when, and how many times he works out. From that perspective, why put him in competitive workouts where his weaknesses could be exposed? There's little to gain, as he's already a lotto pick, and lots to lose.

2) By not working out, they give the impression that Derozan doesn't need to work out for the Raptors. As in, the rest of the league sees that and thinks perhaps Derozan has been told he won't fall to 9, or expects to go higher. This further feeds his buzz, and gets teams anywhere from 5-15 interested, whether they're interested in picking him or maybe trading up to get him. The hope there (from Derozan's camp) is that someone would blow their load on him too early. Going up a few spots in the draft means extra money for everyone.

Either way, it shouldn't indicate anything about the player or his attitude. It's the way the draft works now. Everything is calculated, and everything is done with the goal of getting the player picked higher, and earning more money. The agents have taken over the NBA draft process, for better or for worse.

And, personally, I'd rather take a guy at 9 who could develop into a starter, whether this year or next. Taking Flynn is essentially just drafting a backup, as we have Jose signed for a while now, or putting us right back in a Jose/T.J. situation if Flynn turns out to be worthy of significant court time.

i now hate demar rozan!!! a guy so young shouldnt be choosy on which team he wants to go. he hasnt proven anything in college ball. his stats are not that impressive. he isnt even close to blake griffin, ricky rubio. the reason that his stakes are high is that he is only 19, high flying, and many said he could jump higher than VC. he'll just be another gerald green, kendrick brown. just move on.

i'd rather draft my boy jonny flynn, who combines skills, heart, and attitude. he is a warrior, i love his epic 6OT game against uconn. and he openly stated that he would love to be here, as TO is the closest to his home. getting him would definitely solve our backup point guard woes, and would relieve jose of too much burden running the point. we then could dispose douby, roko (or move roko to the 2 spot as he has the size). and with alvin williams, a raptor great, and the raptors 2nd best point guard so far(after damon stoudamire), alvin would definitely help the growth of our young team.

then just get a decent scoring 2, maybe jamal crawford, a good player stuck on losing teams. he may be inconsistent, but i think he would fit the system, as it is the run n gun, d antoni-esque style, coz he flourished with the knicks this season before he was traded. or just bring back delfino.

DeMar DeRozan doesn't want to work out with the Ratpors according to the National Post, and who can blame him?:

It seems increasingly unlikely that Southern California swingman DeMar DeRozan will be in that group, although it is possible that he could come to the city — just not to hit the floor.
It sounds as if the Raptors would like to work him out, but the freshman is just not obliging. Toronto might have to do with an in-depth conversation.
“That’s part of the draft procedure,” Kelly said of Toronto’s inability to get DeRozan in sneakers at the Air Canada Centre. “We don’t actually control it. We deal with what we have.”

The Ratpors reputation is now well established within the NBA ... it's a graveyard for losers and retirees ..!!!!

"...but Evans has been in the top 10 in rebounds per 48 in minutes over the last 6 years"

"...Jason Kapono, whose .454 career three-point shooting percentage is tied for first in league history with Steve Kerr"

I sure hope Evans' imaginary stats don't turn out to be as misleading as Kapono's imaginary stats.
