Reports are trickling in, but it seems that we have unloaded one of our lumps of coal for someone RR (especially Arsenalist) has been hoping we land for a while now. More to come.
A quick salary note: Reggie Evans is signed through 2010 at a reasonable $5.1mill contract.
146 Raps
Interesting … let’s see what Mr. Evans can bring to the table. A little toughness perhaps? A little rebounding? Asta la vista, Jason Kapono.
Thank G*D!!!!
Reggie Evans brings exactly what this team has been missing since Oakley/Davis/Williams (both of them) left the team.
LO fucking L. I’ve been calling for this to happen for two years.
WOOT.
BOH!
He’s a ball-grabber, isn’t he?
LOL, on and off the glass
Good trade, Kapono was adding nothing and it doesn’t matter that Evans looks like a replica of Pops (when he’s productive). If he can bring in some work ethic and a commitment to boxing out we’ll be fine. This is another move where Colangelo is recognizing Bargnani’s inability to rebound from the C spot.
This leaves Humphries in a very precarious position and makes contract negotiations with Pops a breeze.
If Evans mentors Bargnani…will Bargs now unleash the “inner TEAM ITALIA Soccer” within him?
you mean comedia a del arte?
and flopping ? haha
who knows, as long as it adds some “tough bastard” character to our team
Do you mean that we’ll be able to sign Pops for cheap, or that he’s now redundant and won’t be considered?
Sounds like a great trade-we rid ourselves of some dead wood on the bench, and add a guy who will be the first big off the bench.
Also, maybe this means that Hump will be moved with cash to pick up a late first-rounder.
the biggest problem is that most of the time he wasn’t coming off the bench
Actually that is not true.
Reggie Evans has been among the league leaders in rebounding in recent years and he has not had to start to do it.
I think Evans has only started a majority of the games in a season only once or twice in his whole career.
Very nice. Toughness, rebounding, and a more reasonable salary. Not a lot to dislike here.
Hump is now relatively expendable, so I’d like to see him involved in further dealings if there are going to be any.
Of all the ball-grabbing (in two meanings aside), our team needed a bit of on-court goonery as well, at least he won’t do goonery off the court will he?
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2428627
great trade.krapono will get his shots in philly, here there werent touches to go around.hes a jyd type we desperatly need.our roster is immediately more balanced…………..one thing though,he undercut bosh and bosh landed on his foot and bargs crossed him over and dropped him…..hopefully evans wont pose chemistry problems.
-Great trade
-Now the raptors don’t really have to look at size in the draft (especially if they’re bringing in rasho too)
-Kapono was going to further be lost in the shuffle
-trade hump to washington for deshawn stevenson
Very fucking nice. Excellent move Colangelo. I mean that.
Now lets see what he does on draft night.
BC isn’t stupid. He knows his reputation is at stake as well as his Job.
holy fuck, you have got to be kidding me? the raps gave up one of the best 3-pt shooters in league history for THIS guy? OMG…that’s it, raps are done. kapono was the only thing keeping them respectable – who’s gonna represent the R’s at the allstar festivities now?
seriously, i think i just…

Dude ur kidding right?
?
Definitely kidding. Check out the link he posted.
And yes, I think most Raptor fans are walking around with embarrassing wet spots in the front of their pants today…kinda like the 13-year-old walk of shame to the laundry room, to hide pajama pants before mom sees them, after having one’s first wet dream…
LOL, we just got some toughnes and I Jizzed In My Pants
Maybe BC was a great gm after all but he was preoccupied with doing the whole Euro thing. Now that that has failed he’ll become more defense, rebounding oriented?
Rugged, slowish Kurt Thomas joined the Suns and flourished until the 2007 Horry-gate happened.
Completely disagree.
JO was supposed to be a “defensive, rebounding oriended” impact player.
Garbo was also the same type of low maintenance impact player as your boy, Luis Scola. (Interetingly, both Garbo and Scola happen to be internationally-trained players).
Great trade! Kapono was simply not contributing and given the Raptors needs, evans will def contribute. Some will say his salary is too high, but BC just traded a guy who we can easily replace given his contribution the last 3 years for a guy who we desperately need rebounding and toughness!
Brilliant trade. What’s the salary difference?
Evans is the coolest trapping pf I’ve ever seen.
I love the nut grabber.
Incredible!! Love this trade!!
Anyone who doubts BC’s abilities should be sent to the electric chair. ;)
It looks like those who really doubt BC’s abilities get a kick in the nuts (majority good or sometimes bad bad) from the trades he makes.
GUYS, come on man….it wasn’t like he traded Kapono for Tyson Chandler or something along those lines.
Thanks for the reality check bud, but remember how you felt when the “before-extended” Humphries unfolded after the Arujo trade? I kinda have that feeling for now… but not as dumbly optimistic.
The way I see it, the JO/Ford blockbuster is BC’s only clear-as-day mistake (in hindsight) since joining this franchise.
I respectfully disagree.
Dont forget:
Bargnani #1 overall.
Calderon’s contract.
Garbo’s insured leg in the Olympics.
re-upping Triano.
#1 pick in the JO Miami deal (and taking back Banks)
#1 pick in the JO deal.
Ukic/Solomon as opening day back-up pgs.
Fred Jones
Letting Salmons re-neg on his contract.
Not firing Mitchell after the loss to NJ
Not firing Mitchell after the loss to Orlando
the list continues….
did Mike Brown simply look like Sam Mitchell out there during the Cleveland and Orlando series in the 2009 playoffs?
I agree with most of your list, but not Calderon’s contract. That will prove to be a good move, probably this year. It’s just harder to have that perspective based on this past year, when he was injured so much.
Bargnani #1 overall. – Not a mistake, BRoy was never going to go first and out of the top ten picks, our boy’s number two. Reach.
Calderon’s contract. – I’m no fan of Jose’s game, but it’s a reasonable contract for a starting point. Another reach.
Garbo’s insured leg in the Olympics. – Blatant reaching. How that’s BCo’s fault is beyond me.
re-upping Triano. – Too early to tell.
#1 pick in the JO Miami deal (and taking back Banks) – It’s conditional. We don’t have enough information to know if this is a mistake or not. What if Marion resigns and turns out to be that missing piece as he appeared to be late last season? A future number 1 that’s probably lottery protected along with JO’s dead body is a small price to pay.
#1 pick in the JO deal. – Granted
Ukic/Solomon as opening day back-up pgs. – That was hardly the biggest problem with our team. Reach.
Fred Jones – Which he fixed afterwards. Yet another reach.
Letting Salmons re-neg on his contract. – Why would he want a guy here who doesn’t want to be here? Reach.
Not firing Mitchell after the loss to NJ – It was too early. Reach.
Not firing Mitchell after the loss to Orlando – Granted.
So all in all, you’re clearly looking for reasons to accuse BCo of making mistakes. Some of your points are valid. Most aren’t. The dude’s a good GM and a country mile better than anyone else we could have gotten.
um…what?
Why not Marion for Jr Smith? Contracts match? Would Denver do that
If Billups is still on that Denver team, JR Smith ain’t going nowhere…
agreed. after their run this season they are looking to add talent.
Awesome, gone are the days of the dribble then float
Or the pump fake, and travel.
i just puked in my mouth….thankfully for the last time.
Is this the start of getting 4 – 5 new players on the Ratpor roster … attempting to ‘build’ around Bosh … again ??!!!
I hope nobody is going to predict that the Ratpors are playoff-bound now ..!!!!
Ok F.A.Q. or (Fucked Ass Queer), when the Raptors come back with a vengence next year, you will be first in line to get your nuts forcibly caressed from Mr. Evans.
I guess this means DeJuan Blair won’t be coming to T.O. That leaves us with 5 possible prospects: DeRozan, Evans, Holiday, Williams, and Flynn???
Sorry I meant six players: Curry*
dont want Curry.
I agree, thats why I didn’t include him in the first post
Delfino
Rasho
Parker
Graham
Hump
Jawai
Cannot be brought back. They add absolutely nothing. They brought us to a 15 place finish every year and we should spend money on players with upside and are young.
I really think Parker should be brought back in a reduced role. And Delfino should be brought back for a few million. Anything more and things will be bad.
There’s really no reason not to continue with Jawai, since his heart is fine after all and it was always going to take him a while to develop. And while it now makes more sense to move hump for a wing, it’s no catastrophe if he stays.
Too many returning old ppl or inconsistent parts, I think more things will come at Draft Day 2009
this trade is good for both teams, but it goes against my beliefs.
Well stay in tune for the next Philly vs. Toronto game, and place ourselves on a ledge of a bridge. If Evans gets 15 rbs or if the Raps get 10+ rebs as a team and wins..you step off the ledge to safety. If Kapono nails 5 threes and gets 20 pts, and blocks Bosh and we lose, jump off the bridge.
On the surface this looks like a nice trade for both sides…but is it? Philly really needed a guy to replace Korver, and JK will be a nice add to that roster.
But for the Raps, they actually take BACK salary in this deal, since Evans has 1 more year than JK on his contract at roughly the same price. Is this worth it for a guy who is not really going to help this team (lets face it, he’s not even going to be the 6th man)and will be doing what Humph does for less than 2.5 mil a year?
Is Colangelo’s idea of bringing in toughness dealing JK for a bench/role player? Ok, JK is gone and that makes fans happy, but so what, JK for Evans doesnt change 33 wins.
Slow down Arse and others. Dont get too happy yet. I’ll reserve my judgement until I see what happens on draft, night and in FA this summer.
It going to take more than a 7th or 8th man to compete in the East.
I thought Evans and JK both become free agents in 2011/12.
According to Sham Sports, Kapono’s last year is 2010-11 at about $6.6 mil. Evans’s last year is 2010-11 at $5.08 mil. Hump don’t rebound like Evans – i.e. consistently game to game and year to year – and Evans knows he’s not a scorer. With this trade BC added about $1.6 mil. to what he has for the mythical summer of 2010.
Now the Raptors need a scorer off the bench. Von Wafer?
my bad, espn.com has JK as going one year more, but every other site on the net has them at equal years. therefore, the Raps do save about 1.5 mil a year in this deal.
as for the humph. evan debate:
Rebounds per 40 minutes:
Humph = 10.6
Evans = 12.7
* so thats roughly a million dollars per 40 minutes for each extra rebound
PER:
Humph = 16.37
Evans = 10.42
Humph does alot of other stuff that Evans just doest do.
pts- 17.5 (per 40 minutes) vs Evans: 9.2
assts- 1.5 (per 40 minutes) vs Evans: 0.9
Humph’s problem has always been that he’s never got the minutes.
He never got minutes (under SMitch) because he considerd himself Minnesota’s own Air Jordon.
he did average 20-10 at college.
Yeah but JJ Redick and adam Morrison were College stars as well
I suspect Hump’s PER makes him the king of small sample sizes and there’s a reason the sample size doesn’t get bigger despite having 3 different coaches. I think Hump’s hit his ceiling – a few good games a year, some flashes and then . . . a lot of jacked up shots. Maybe his PER lets the Raps trade him to someone thinking he can be a scoring big off the bench. If BC unloads Hump and Kapono for more useful pieces or cap relief, I’ll be impressed. If he unloads Banks I’ll be beyond impressed.
I don’t think comparing a young man like Kris Humphries who has never played major regular playing time, to a vet like Evans who has started and played extensively is very informative.
They are totally different players. Hump cannot bring what Evans does to the court.
Give me a break, do you think anyone is afraid of Humphries in the NBA???
Players have been and will be again intimidated by Reggie Evans down low.
Call him a dirty player, but hey a lot of dirty players have won championships. Look at the bad boys of Detroit. Look at Bruce Bowen for the Spurs. Teams need dogged defensive specialists and the Raptors have not had enough muscle down low.
Humphries is talented, but he is not muscle down low.
Agreed. The presence alone Evans has, coupled with his ability to guard the biggest guy on the floor is going to make things easier for Bosh/Bargnani (whoever’s on the floor at the time).
Von Wafer is not consistent enough, especially in the playoffs, to warrant a FreeAgent signing.
Reggie Evans’ contract lasts for the same amount of time as Kapono’s does, and is almost a couple million less in 2010-2011. So to be honest, even if Evans doesn’t contribute AT ALL, I think this is a decent trade. However, I think Evans will add some rebounding and toughness and this will be a pretty good trade. The Raptors have enough shooters, but they need more rebounding and toughness, Evans adds some of that. Trading a defensively retarded turnover prone non-shooting three point specialist for someone that can do anything counts as a good trade in my books.
We needed to add toughness and rebounding to the roster and Evans clearly addresses it. Although he isn’t as skilled as Charles Oakley, he is definitely as tough and as good a rebounder.
Even though Evans is signed one year longer than JK, having him on the roster instead of JK for the two years remaining on JK’s contract is value added. The addition of Evans should resonate positively in the locker room and practice court for all of our bigs, including Marion
Furthermore, adding the kind of toughness and rebounding possessed by Evans is impossible to do through the draft. Since JK was the only rotation player we could have move without weakening our roster, this trade is a no-brainer for the Raps.
I can’t think of another player who’s as good a rebounder and as tough a defensive presnce as Evans that BC could have acquired straight-up for JK.
Realizar,
He doesn’t have skill as an offensive player, but DANG does he pull some mind games and shenanigans on some key players to give us an edge or just give the opposition the feeling they will be hurt or violated and it throws them off their game a tad. Another perspective… you go on the court and Kapono is defending you, would you think think twice of driving to the basket? NO!!! With Evans defending you, you would think 5-10 times before driving on him… Cleveland could of used Reggie Evans than a $15 million useless panty-waste like Ben Wallace.
This trade sure relieves plenty of RR fan rage for sure, but we are still a looooong looong way from retooling a complete team that competes every night. Draft Night 2009 here we come!
And I have yet to see a decent Jason Kapono nut joke. Evans on the other hand is comedy gold. You can’t put a price on that. Or his jug ears.
Thanks for the breath of fresh air phd. Reggie Evans, much like Jason Kapono, has an extremely overpriced contract for a guy with extremely limited skills. This was a good move because JK was redundant on the Raps and we needed toughness and rebounding at the C position. But don’t be fooled, this is not a team-changing deal.
Wow, this would have been almost addition by subtraction with Kapono, so to get a beast like Evans and pick up some cap space, I do not see a downside here. I agree that Hump will be gone now. Funny how Philly getting rid of Korver made this trade happen, as they desperately needed a threat from the three. What they will find out is that Kapono does not actually take a lot of them, and while he makes a fair %, is such a liability in other aspects of the game that they will regret this trade. The only way it can work is if they use the Miami model of using him, but they do not have a Wade to make that happen. I hope that this is the start of reshaping this roster to actually compete on a nightly basis, and Colangelo is off to a good start if this is an indication of what is to come.
They don’t have Wade, but they do have Iggy…I think their hope is that Kapono will be the recipient of open looks once people rotate to cover Iggy’s drives
Nice trade BC! I see no downside to ridding the team of Kapono for a tough rebounder. Not the end of the work that needs to be done, but a nice start and a reason for optimism.
Leave it to Colangelo to take out the trash early on and bring in a guy who touches more balls than Michael Jackson and WWE wrestlers combined.
Oh, right as for the trade… This stirs up alot of optimism, and we know Colangelo has had one of the top minds in basketball for while now, but the real question is can he deliver? Possibly follow up this trade with something leaving us in awwe come draft day. I hope so.
Dunno about top minds, prolly, maybe…but active minds are a good a show of things.
You what this trade mean BC is def drafting a wing player and may acquire another buy getting another pick in the draft. HAPPY DAY
Can we just start a Reggie Evans ball/nut joke thread of its own. Can the RR keep it going all summer? Yes we can!
Maybe the Raptors new acquisition should go by “Dr. Evans” since he’s an expert at screening opponents for prostate cancer.
Winner so far.
I think he should go by “The Violator” – that’s what Kaman called him after the nut grab. I’d forgotten he went in from behind. The man will be remembered forever for that.
Does Bargs have to apologize for posterizing him last year?
If he doesn’t, then he won’t have a full set of nuts by next year
Great.. Trading Kapono for a pervert…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFcinlrgojk
Good trade, but I do wonder what else might have been on the table. We all know that Kapono can’t play a lick, but there had to be a few GMs out there that believed with the right style of play he could be a valuable addition. Unless of course the ’sixers made this trade purely for optics. Stefanski would have soon been out of a job if he hadn’t acquired a shooter after that miserable first round.
Moving JK opens the door for Delfino (the sequel) to get the minutes he didn’t get in his first go-around here.
You also forgot about a BRAND new potential problem for them as well that was from Stefanski, I think his job is still on the line now. Thaddeus Young saved his job last season.
I wouldn’t assign Stefanski too much blame for the Brand problem – it was a nice pickup, if the injury hadn’t happened, and if Igoudala (overrated in my opinion) found a way to play alongside him. Bosh and O’Neal not working out I get, but I don’t see why Brand/Igoudala could not get something going.
I would of taken Brand out of plain sight if I had the the cap space at an instant, also I kinda felt that during that season before that injury, he should of lost some more weight to have him speed up a bit…but if he is well now and Kapono is standing on the corner for a 3-pointer…. maybe Philly got their key player?
Yeah, he might work there. Brand and Igoudala are certainly no Shaq and Wade, but they might be enough to turn Kapono into the forgotten man, where he really shines. Still, the Sixers first problem is reconciling Igoudala to Brand. Eddie Jordan might be the guy to do it.
Good trade. I can’t really see any negatives.
Well done gentlemen!
I think that this trade is brilliant! Kapono’s salary has had people who frequent this site moaning and groaning all year. JK had his chances to shine this year and it just didn’t happen. Too one-dimensional, and with all the shooters on the team and the possibility of the return of Delfino, Kapono was extremely to redundant to keep on. So what does BC get in return for our former over priced 3 point specialist? He gets almost the opposite type of player. A man with muscle, size and no need to score. A guy who makes people think twice about going to the hoop. Reggie Evans is a better low post defender than anyone else on the Raptors roster now. He is already established as what he brings to the table. He works hard for rebounds, he does dirty work and he will stand up for our guys with some toughness. The fact that the Raps took on a lower salary and got rid of JK’s ridiculous contract is just the icing on the cake. Next I would totally welcome Rasho’s return. He loved playing in Toronto and he is very under-rated. Remember the Raps were most successful when they had Oakley, AD and Willis dominating the boards and the paint. The Raptors could maybe make the biggest improvement in the rebounding area next season from last season.
I don’t care how anyone spins this trade, it is a coup for the Raptors.
This move will hopefully set a tone and we will see at the draft.
Either way this trade is a definite plus for the Raptors..
I don’t think whatever we get will ever match Oakley and Davis. They were a breed of players from the late 80s – 90s era. They played the MAN-type game and were able to put up with anything thrown at them, and always backed up the trash talk. Mutombo was the last of their dying breed.
I am just saying that getting guys who kinda play like them is good. I totally agree that the NBA of then is gone. I just think that more young players should maybe take the approach Reggie Evans and Dennis Rodman do, scoring is not everything.
Excellent trade for Toronto. Decent one for Phily.
One thing though — Reggie Evans isn’t a defensive specialist. He’s not even a good defender. Evans is a below average defender.
He’s just a bully and a ball grabber specialist.
Yeah no kidding:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxcdZw272Hc
Agreed.
Evans has a career .1 BPG%
To compare,
Bargnani has a career .8 BPG%
If anyone thinks this move will solve our defensive woes, they need to put down the kool-aid, and fast.
You can’t use just blocks per game to determine how good a defensive player someone is. Steals, box outs, foot quickness, the ability to foul hard, etc. are all important. Considering the Raptors had a matador style defense in the paint last year, a big fat mean guy who will put people on their ass is a big improvement. Charles Oakley didn’t really block shots much, but he was a great defender and intimidator.
I don’t want to discount Bargnani’s shot blocking ability at all, or the fact that his defense was improved last year, but without the fear of getting knocked down in the paint, other teams own the Raptors down low.
Reggie Evans is a mean dude who is ready to put some punks on the floor.
and who knows maybe his brother will playing with us too soon also.
True, but I would consider a .8 BPA% to be just about the bare minimum for an effective centre.
.1 is way way way below that.
He could play the 4 alongside Andrea or even Bosh at the 5!
Although the trade works to fit percieved needs on both sides, BC is lookin pretty smart here by cutting 2.8 million over the next two years and 1.56 million in the summer of 2010 (enough for another role player) while filling 2 of the biggest needs on his roster…
This deal is a COUP! Getting ANYTHING serviceable for JK is amazing. And Evans is about as good a representation in the league today of what the Raptors have been lacking. LOVE this trade…LOVE IT! Tough rebounder off the bench is addressed, now we need a scoring wing and a reliable backup PG. A rotation of Bosh, Marion, Bargnani and Evans in the frontcourt is great as far as I’m concerned. Bosh can play some C. Marion can play some PF. Love it!
I think you should get used to the fact that Marion will not be here next year unless we overpay for him.
Spudz
I’d bet that Marion will be back at around 8 mil per. Where else is he gonna go? No other team with cap room is especially attractive. Unless he now hates Toronto, Colangelo, Triano and Ivaroni, I think he’ll be back.
great trade…but for the second unit.
we’ll see how things will unfold in the starting line-up
NO! I can’t believe it! Reggie Evans is my most despised player throughout all of the NBA. Hopefully this crackhead is unloaded before the season starts, or at least by next year’s trade deadline. I can only pray that this scrub will get garbage minutes at best. If this guy gets called off the bench before Hump or Pops I will eat my hat.
On the bright side, I guess Kapono’s departure pretty much clears the way for Delfino’s return to the wing spot – which I like…I think.
Oh man. This team is DOOMED.
I would say if Jay Triano plays Hump or Pops before Reggie Evans then we are totally DOOMED….
In my opinion the Raps should trade Humphries for a guard and sign Pops to the minimum and sit him as an 11 or 12th man. Pops should be used as an energy guy when the regulars are slacking.
Anybody else know that Reggie Evans is Tyreke Evans older brother?
Make it happen BC!!
I’m pretty sure it’s a different Reggie Evans
That is not true Reggie Evans is Tyreke Evans’s older brother!
Different guy
That sucks…and I got so excited too…
http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2009/may/31/tyreke-evans-nba-draft/
“My family’s biggest concern is that Tyreke gets drafted by a good organization and be able to play for that team,” said Reggie Evans, Tyreke’s older brother and forward for the Philadelphia 76ers. “The bottom line is that he’s happy.”
It is the same Reggie Evans
That story is wrong. They are not related.
NY times says its a different reggie evans:
“….said Reggie Evans, 35, manager of a communications company and Tyreke’s legal guardian.”
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/21/sports/ncaabasketball/21preps.html
Oh, okay, my bad.
As with all trades, I am just worried that we’ll have dealt Philly the piece that’ll push them over the top and they’ll be able to champ through us in the next season.
But all in all, without considering the possible ramifications in Philly, this is a solid trade for the Raptors. Below average defender you say? hmmm, oh and will you guys please stop it with the ball grabbing jokes, its enough to have the clip linked in this thread 4 times. I mean do any of you for an instant, think that a guy who plays dirty is a bad thing?
solid pick up. should help in rebounding, which is one of our biggest pit-falls.
We can’t worry about what other teams are doing! We have enough to worry about with the Raptors!
Great trade. The addition of a veteran like Evans means Raptors are really into win-now mode and surround-your-skilled-bigs-with-pitbulls mode. This shows that the raptors will probably look to trade down and get a senior ready to contribute and understand his role in the offense rather than a freak athlete that is gonna look to get his shots off.
Hope that now we have enough money (Kapono’s contract saves us $2 mill) to get a back-up point and a solid scoring option at wing off the bench. It doesn’t guarantee wins but it gives us a better chance at having an all-around roster, compared to the dysfunctional one at he beginning of last year’s training camp.
If we sign Marion and Parker on the cheap, we can pick up a valuable rookie ala Williams or Young and add a gunner like Wafer, who’s not gonna hurt our team in the 15-20 minutes of playing time he’ll get. Just like in Houston. That’s a solid wing rotation and more athletic and skilled than the Kapono-Parker-delfino-Graham-Moon we’ve had to deal with these years. Icing on the cake would be trading Hump for a contributing veteran point guard and signing a vet like Rasho to provide some length and leadership off the bench.
In Colangelo We Trust!
Also, to note how bipolar Raptors fans are, most would have considered taking a dump on BC’s face just yesterday.
And now those very same ones are lined up to suck his d*ck.
My response to this is:
The Raptors have quite a varied group of fans. We have true optimists and we have true pessimists.
We have people who think the team can do no wrong and root for them blindly like a wounded Cubs or Clipper Fan. We also have idiotic self-proclaimed know it all’s that think they could run an NBA team better than anyone else in the world. SO….
do not get the many confused as one. I myself fall on the blind following optimist side. I have always thought that BC was a top GM in the NBA, (even before he came to TO).
I know there is a lot of chatter from different Rap Fans on here (not to mention some fake Raptor Fans that are acting like they are ones, just for their own sad pathetic enjoyment), SO…
realize that Raptors fans are different and rarely do we all agree…
My pants would still drop and I would gladly eat chili before doing so.
This is a start, but if it leads to being the major move of the offseason, I’m worried.
Wow, to say that this is a surprise is an understatement – never thought we’d unload Kapono. Great trade and clears the way for Hump to be traded for a pick or swingman. Well done BC.
Press Conference:
http://www.nba.com/raptors/video/2009/06/09/BCPRESSER090906.raptors/index.html
Wow. And I continue to look at the Miami deal as the beginning of something special happening here. Even Banks doesn’t matter now. Wow. Opening day with none of JO, Moon, and now Kapono, who was actually the biggest mistake of all.
I think Moon would be nice in a 10-15 minutes role. We shouldn’t think that DeRozan will be better than Moon next year. Less annoying to watch, probably.
Your a tool LOL. Moon better then DeRozen? Moon is low IQ player who was lucky to sniff the NBA. He’s trash with a poor work ethic. He would nice in a cleaning toilets at a Hotel role I think.
Dont go throwing Hump under the bus because he was replaced while injured.
- He’s still a better defender than Pops against back-down bruisers (a weakness in our roster)
- He’s got a much larger sample of work in the NBA to base realistic expecations off of
- He’s several years younger and is much more skilled
The most likely guy to go is Pops – Not Hump!
Agreed, this has to signify the end of Pops in TO. And Hump’s under contract at a reasonable rate so there’s no use in giving him away. But if he can be traded for something of value then let’s make it happen.
I hope Evans is utilized properly. Could you imagine he becomes a jump shooter and shy’s away from rebounding like everyone else?
J.O and Moon became Jump shooters when they said that they were here for defense/rebounding only. Remember that.
Kapono brought in to only shoot 3’s and instead tried to create his own shot and traveled every play.
Triano and staff better know what they’re doing.
Have you seen his jump shot?
He’s a rebounder. He will rebound
When you have Jay Triano as the head coach you have to be worried.
Why? Just because the team he was coaching sucked? It’s not like anyone had any huge complaints about the coaching through all those losses last year. The problem was the team sucked. Not so much the coach(es).
And I agree with Phdsteve this is a lateral move and not a difference between 33 wins and 50 wins. He’s a very good bench player but our starters have to be upgraded or we’re fucked.
Calderon, Delfino backcourt is not good enough. That’s laughable. That’s not a playoff backcourt. Can’t deal with their softness and inconsistency.
I fail to see where anyone claimed this was a 17-win improvement. If he’s a ‘very good bench player’ as you claim, then it’s not a lateral move because Kapono does not fall into that category.
Im half asleep so I dunno what u said but I like Reggie he seems tough but get rid of the shitty backcourt we have now.
Calderon would not intimidate a Nun if he across her in an alleyway at night. He doesn’t intimidate NBA players. His only offense is to pass the ball to Bosh and stay clear.
Delfino belongs in a Alberto Hairspray Ad and is not the answer to anything. He should be a 6th man or work at a hair salon doing manicures.
Graham should be in the WWE or become a full time pilot he’s not an NBA player.
Bosh and Bargnani need to become tougher and stronger.
Jawai needs to become a spokeperson for heart pacemakers, sell suits or work at a Zoo. He’s not an NBA player.
Humphries needs to do porn full time or start up a modeling agency and deal with Girls all day long.
Parker is too damn nice and soft. Has he ever had a technical or gave a hard foul? He has no charisma and his interviews are robotic. Not worth bringing back. Go apply at the Vatican in Rome and run errands for the Pope. Your damn Soft for the NBA.
you need to get funnier.
I know I’m funny. And I get laid too. Something you couldn’t turn into a reality in 5 lifetimes. LOL
good one
someone who choses as a nickname ‘Cosa Nostra’ – that is, the Sicilian Mafia – should be banned from his country (or at least from Italy) for dishonor and treason. And of course, shouldn’t think about basketball but about himself and his set of values…
It means ” a thing of ours” not I want to Join the mafia you numb nuts.
Wow an internet user name on a basketball site and Now I want to be part of the Mob ? You’d think I legally changed my name instead.
Whoelse is there, oh….
Roko Ukic looks like someone who set fires on purpose as a kid. He has some tenacity and fight in him but he’s still maturing. Get a Jumpshot and the Kid is better then Calderon easily. This little prick beat the Spurs single handedly. lol
Marion would be good doing animations or selling jerk Chicken Downtown or running a gang youth camp when he’s retired. Keep him but only at a bargain.
O’bryant – If body parts were brains you’d be kevin Garnette’s penis. You have the IQ and basketball talent of one.
Banks – Who ?
Jake Vaskuhl – Where does BC find this crap?
