D starts at the point. Calderon is a great offensive player but a mediocre defensive player. I don’t care if he has Yao Ming or Dwight Howard to back him up, that will always be a problem as long as he is here.

With Calderon, the only reasonable option is to outscore your opponent, not outdefend.

I agree … there were several games this past season when Jose Calderon SHOULD NOT have been playing because he was far from being close to 100% healthy.

For this, Bryan Colangelo [as the team's GM], and then Jay Triano [as the team's head coach], need to be held accountable.

If Jose couldn’t play at 100%, he shouldn’t have been out there anyway.

An injury is never an excuse for anything except for not playing.

What the Raptors need more of is a player with the skill set and physical properties of a “Vincent Lamar Carter” [OG] … to go with a “Doug Christie” [SF], an “Antonio Davis” [PF], and the Jose Calderon [PG], plus Chris Bosh [C], who they already have.

That’s the type of 5-Man Unit which could be competitive with the Magic, Celtics, Cavaliers and Pistons, today.

IMO, the gap is a large one. This season, Orlando finished:

- 6th in Points Allowed
- 4th in Points Differential
- 9th in Rebounding Differential

performances levels never approached by those Phoenix teams.

Dwight Howard is a superior shot blocker and defender to Amare Stoudemire.

In general, SVG has an attention to detail at the defensive end of the floor that dwarfs anything put forth from Mike D’Antoni & Co.

Defensively speaking how far of a gap is there between the current Orlando lineup and the old Pheonix one? Pace is different but defensively they all funnel to a great shotblocker in Dwight or Amare. They both play a 4 wing players + PG + Center approach.
