James,

If that's true from your perspective, then, that's the best reason of all NOT to trade CB4.

When a trade is made in the NBA, in general, whichever team ends up with the BEST player, is going to win that specific transaction.

i.e. This is part of the reason why you try to trade a player like Bargnani, at this point of his career, in a "sucker deal" involving a player like Rudy Gay ... rather than making any type of move for a player like Chris Bosh, in return for any type of package involving players like Monta Ellis, Andre Biedrins, Marco Belinelli, Cory Maggette, etc.

If the name being discussed shifts to Anthony Randolph + other assets ... then, that's a whole different ball-game, depending on what the other assets actually are.

I agree but I would take that trade in a minute. Biedrins could play well alongside Bargnani, and Marion if we keep him. Belinelli is a huge improvement over Parker, Kapono, et al and we still have enough cash left over to strengthen either the SF, SG, or PG poitions depending on what's available and strengthen the bench as well. Giving Bosh 30% of our salary kills our chances pretty much until his contract runs out.

Biedrins+Crawford+Belineli for Bosh+Kapono is as good an offer we can expect.

In any trade scenario involving Bosh, he's going to be the best player in the deal.

My opinion of feeling good about with Pops, O'Bryant and Hump is based on the the premise that we keep/re-sign Bosh.

I agree that adding a big man who can come off the bench and score consistently is necessary, but I don't think we'll be able to acquire one because we almost certainly won't have the cap room. And acquiring a starting SG is a bigger necessity than a scoring back-up big.

It's possible that we sign a starting SG via free agency and draft a big who can eventually become the score we need. It's also possible that we trade our pick to acquire one who's already a proven scorer.

If we re-resign Bosh, Marion, Parker, Graham and Pops (with Douby already inked), we may have enough money left under the cap to sign 1 more 2nd-tier quality free agent. The thought of starting the season with our current rotation of bigs in order to acquire a starting SG is a decent case scenario at best. It's acceptable.

Most teams don't have scoring bigs coming off the bench. Scoring bigs are starters.

We also have to factor in the reality that scoring bigs are hard to find and therefore cost more than scoring wings, which makes the possiblity of acquiring a scoring big less likely.

All things considered, we have too many holes to fill this summer by way of FA and the draft. If we can at least effectively fill our starting SG hole and keep both Bosh and Marion, I'll accept starting the season with our present rotation of bigs.

Agree. He played in 67 games and while he certainly had hamstring issues he is still one of the slowest point guards in the league and cannot defend anyone other than guards who get scraed by the CLAP defense. Offensively he cannot see the whole court, and does not really create good looks for shooters as a great pg would. Jose was and is one of the main reasons why this team stunk the joint out.
We need way more than Hump, Pops, and O'Bryant as back up bigs if we want to make the playoffs. Pops has enough energy and spring to back up Marion or another sf, but Hump is not good enough or smart enough to play regular minutes. Also the team desperately needs a shooting guard because Parker sucks. Trade Bosh for Biedrins and a draft pick, then get a real shooting guard, and maybe move Jose for a quicker guard or have him share minutes with a better SG than what we now have.

Bosh for Jamison and Butler. Will probably need some other pieces to make it work but a starting 5 of:

Jose
Butler
Marion
Jamison
Bargnani

I'd watch that team.

I agree. If/when Bosh and/or Bargs gets hurt next year the weaknesses of bench of bigs comprised of O’Bryant, Pops and Humps would be exposed (not unlike Jose's injuries exposed a serious lack of depth at the PG spot).
