Marcus Banks, Shawn Marion and Bryan Colangelo Interview

Marcus Banks Interview:

Shawn Marion talks to Raptors TV:

Bryan Colangelo interview:

54 Raps

  1. John says:

I like what I heard from Shawn Marion and Banks, that being said I also like what I heard from JO when we signed him. The positive thing is if this actually turns out to be successful Shawn seemed like he would want to stay here especially given his relationship with BC. One thing we should credit BC with outright is his ability to sell Toronto. The players like him.

My concern is whether Jose can run a up tempo offense, I haven’t seen that in a long time so I can’t really remember. This year he has been way more of a half court player.

  2. massive says:

god, i think id be a better speaker. he is so nervous, stutters and so on.
anyway, i liked the slip: we aint got that much time together… that was funny. and said. very said :)

  3. yertu damkule says:

**cueing up the inevitible ‘what a douchebag bullshitter, just like JO’ comments…starting….NOW!

  4. Raptoronto says:

Was that BC wearing a Marion body suit? Colangelo sure knows how to keep his players in-line and saying all the right things (a first in TO)…where’s his white cat and big ass pinky ring?

  5. FLUXLAND says:

How many games will Marion miss? 10? 15?

    • yertu damkule says:

      27.

      • FLUXLAND says:

Wow… what a pessimist! So much for positive thinking, eh yertu?

        • yertu damkule says:

i’ve succumbed…the peer pressure is too much. just easier to give in and admit that everything’s a catastrophe, or one waiting to happen. makes it much more satisfying…like, if you only ever expect failure, it’s much easier to accept when/if it happens. and if it doesn’t, even better, woohoo, we’re awesome!

  6. Chris says:

just remember the kind of team we were the last few years BEFORE JO? The raptors were very entertaining to watch. The main knock on JO before the year started was that he would slow us into a half court team….well all I can say is that all the reporters were right! bbbboring!

Hopefully Marion will get us back to that up and down style, and bring some D

    • yertu damkule says:

nah, they were like that last year too, especially when TJ was out. very slow pace, pound it inside to bosh, or have someone take a jumper.

  7. lakeserver says:

i sure hope this guy will not hate the weather in toronto…he spent his entire career in warm cities…it would take him forever to get used to it…anyways…welcome Matrix to toronto

    • yertu damkule says:

i always love the fascination people have with the weather in TO. is it that different from NY, or chicago, or boston? there really aren’t very many cities in the states that can be considered ‘warm-weather’ cities.

the bigger issue, not necessarily with respect to marion, but for ‘10, is the tax situation in florida vs. canada. many assume that bosh won’t leave a year & ~$30M on the table to go elsewhere…but what if he went somewhere with light taxation (say, oh, i dunno, florida)…would the tax differential, over the course of the contract (5 yrs) be enough to offset that additional year & $30M?

      • FLUXLAND says:

DG mentioned this to me a while back, and I looked into it. The tax thing is not an issue at all. Athletes have special tax “brackets”/provisions they can take advantage of over here, that makes it a non issue.

        • yertu damkule says:

well that’s cool…i kinda/sorta thought there was something along those lines, but wasn’t sure. i figured if it was an issue, it would’ve been mentioned by now.

      • FLUXLAND says:

Oh and as it has been mentioned elsewhere… Bosh wouldn’t be leaving the 30 on the table at all. Pretty sure he loses it only if BC lets him walk. Of course, if that happens it will only be seen as another step forward for the franchise and about his next move. BC, my friends, does not make mistakes.

        • yertu damkule says:

well, at least that much we can agree on ;)

i agree, if bosh leaves, it’ll be in a deadline deal, or more likely, a sign-&-trade after next season. ah, memories of tmac just came flooding back. what DID the raps get for him, anyway?

          • FLUXLAND says:

Yeah, I envision a sign and trade.. therefore he doesn’t lose the money.
We got a pick for T Mac.. and many years of bad karma, I think. Oh don’t forget the swift kick in the jewels. Gold, that one.

    • OntarioTeachersFundPresident says:

Toronto weather? Gimme a fucking break. Same weather as half the NBA.

He’ll get into his range rover underground and park in his condo lot underground, just like every other nBA yahoo coming through Toronto.

  8. FAQ says:

27 games left … 16 at home and 11 on the road. If Raptors have a 16-11 record they will end the season at 37-45 or 0.451 .. which is prolly not enough to reach the playoffs.

Soooo why the trade??!!!! …. Most likely setting up for next season because the trade options for BC are somewhat limited with the current Raptor roster. The only conceivable trade that could improve the Raps is to trade Bosh for a group of athletes. Oh well …. now if BC could get Amare …!!!!!!!!!

  9. Sam says:

I demand a link to the Marcus Banks interview! When do we start the Marcus Banks fan club? Maybe it should be the Banks/Kapono fan club.

    • FLUXLAND says:

I am intrigued by this kid. Haven’t seen him play much, seems like a bright guy tho. Let’s start this Banks fan club!! FREE BANKS. Shutdown Jose and his hammy. START BANKS!!

      • yertu damkule says:

it could only help…to secure a good draft position.

but why not, he’s not gonna do any damage to his perceived value by playing like shit. if he plays and sucks, well, he’s only confirming what everyone already knows or suspects. but if they catch lightening in a bottle, and they give him an extended run w/ serious minutes, and he turns out to be some kind of revelation…well, doesn’t that at the very least improve his stock, perhaps to the point that he’s seen as a potential back-up for a team desperate for a PG…even at that salary?

        hahaha

        • FLUXLAND says:

Don’t forget… Jose gets to heal and come back next year as the All Star we all know he is. This is win-win-win situation. BC is a genius. Lose the rest of the games… LOTTERY BABY!! Make the playoffs – WE MADE THE PLAYOFFS! CHA CHING!! I think his true genius is only being revealed to me now. How could have I been so blind? EXECUTIVE OF THE YEAR THIS GUY!! JO AAAND THE MATRIX in same year? Wow! Just WOW!

          • yertu damkule says:

he’s just following the tried & true method to building a chip team, as written by D. Ainge. suck for a few years. surround star with marginal talent. find former teammate who’s now the GM of a shitty team with a superstar beginning the downside of his career who’s desperate for a ring. send pu pu platter in exchange for said player. land high (but not super-high) draft pick in excellent draft year…trade player picked with selection for future HOF/arguably best distance shooter in history (from team also desperate to shed salary).

            voila! sheer genius.

      • Raptoronto says:

FLUX, loves the underdog, hates everything else. Money in the BANKS!

        • FLUXLAND says:

HA! This is true.. I’m all about the underdog. Don’t hate everything else, though. I’m just not like most people on here… destroy Solomon because he has a low skill set (supposedly) and then excuse Bosh for not maximizing his. It’s weird to me. Like, hey let’s pick on the challenged kid because it’s so easy and give the genius, who’s skating thru, a pass.

        • FLUXLAND says:

Oh, and FREE BANKS!! DOWN WITH CALDUKIC!!

  10. khandor says:

    Flux,

    ——————————–
Oh and as it has been mentioned elsewhere… Bosh wouldn’t be leaving the 30 on the table at all. Pretty sure he loses it only if BC lets him walk. Of course, if that happens it will only be seen as another step forward for the franchise and about his next move. BC, my friends, does not make mistakes.
    ——————————–

IMO, those last 2 sentences SHOULD be the “Rap-of-the-last-3-years”. : )

    • Raps Fan says:

lol…imagine? i would honestly move on to another team if that went down like that.

    • FLUXLAND says:

      Khandor,

some will also have you believe that BC is simply a VICTIM in all of this. A victim of bad luck. I’m not sure if that’s insight of his “lottery”/guessing style of management or something else, as I refuse to read the article. And it’s funny how the “right” moves are strokes of a 2 time EOY genius, yet the “wrong” ones are simply bad luck. Luck.. it’s a funny thing.

A VICTIM!!!! Honestly, what is wrong with people?

  11. verbatim says:

    FREE BANKS!!!

  12. bearvon says:

    FREE BANKS!!!!

bc=smug asshole…i kinda back it…it can kinda backfire.

i dont get raptors tv here in nyc but the donkey wearing the glasses might be the worst…i love the few times he looks at the camera mid interview and proceeds to hold the mic close to him.

    don cheadle seems aight though.

    • bearvon says:

to follow it up…homie with glasses=lesbian

      • Raptoronto says:

Easy now, Raps TV is community television at it’s finest.

…and those two clowns in the video are indespensible! Who else is going to carry Devlins 12 pack of Alberto hairspray and sniff Leo’s 20 year old jock strap?

      • nunya says:

Haha! That is EXACTLY what he looks like!! God I hate the cunts on RaptorsTV…

This has got to be the only city that would put up with these fucking clowns….MLSE knows no one cares…godfosaken fucking hockey town….

  13. Arsenalist says:

What’s the over/under date of Will Solomon getting waived? I don’t see any use for him.

  14. LAs Only says:

A little off-topic but an interesting article in the nytimes about measuring players.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/15/magazine/15Battier-t.html

All I could think about while reading it (it’s 8 pages), was Jorge Garbajosa.

  15. Mike P says:

i agree, ive been studying here in chicago, and its cold and windy. ive experienced two winters here and its bad. its frigid cold, but with much less snow. there will be periods when its -20 for 10 days straight. the good thing is winter starts later and ends about 3 weeks earlier.

nevertheless, weather should never be mentioned when playing for the raps. it should be irrelevant IMO. it is no different than the upper midwest and northeast of the united states.

it’s a canadian stereotype, its hockey, its what people always link the country too. when i say i’m canadian, they want to know how the weather is like. when i tell them i’m a basketball fan, many don’t understand how. etc. ignorance is bliss ’round here and its just easier that way…

  16. Sam says:

If the cap goes down this year or next, the post-JO Raptors could (emphasize could) be in a position similar to OKC when it comes to taking advantage of other team’s desperation to reduce payroll. I have no idea if that is part of BC’s thinking because I no longer trust his judgment but at least its a possibility – something I’m sure a few NOLA fans would welcome about now (although for the short term they might be in better shape considering the injury-riddled/subpar year Chandler’s been having).

  17. drizz says:

What the fuck is with the TSN2 love in this article?

    http://www.basketball.ca/en/hm/inside.php?id=2786

    bullshit.

  18. Yuppers this TSN2 noise is getting out of control. Some serious nonsense.
Spring is coming, time to bang on these mofos doors and start asking questions. Whos Down?????
