OK, I tried to get as many questions in as I could, Jack only had 15 minutes and I had about 25 questions so there were many that were left out. I’ve basically taken the questions that were posted and asked them verbatim, there wasn’t much time for follow-ups. He had just crossed the border and was driving to the Raptors charter plane so he’s on his speaker-phone. I’ve given credit to the author of each question, Raptoronto, Khandor, J-Roc, OntarioTeachersFundPresident etc.

Thanks again to Jack who gave us a BIG TIME HELLO!!!, unfortunately, I spoke over it. Forgive me, I’m still trying to learn this stuff.
46 Raps
Arse – thanks for the interview. Well done, but I have to say I’m a little disappointed with Jack. He’s biting is tongue too often for my liking and he was much more enjoyable to listen to when he used to do the radio broadcasts with Chuck. He had a longer leash and it made for good entertainment. The way he wouldn’t answer the low IQ question was sucked.
I think Jack answered the IQ question appropriately. He stated who he though had good IQ, he named a few players on the Raps, if you were not on that list, you were likely towards the lower end of the IQ level. I mean the guy works for the organization and interacts with the players all the time, why would he so bluntly state who has low IQ, i think it was an unfair position to put him in.
LOL!
Arse: “New Orleans is your kinda town, right?”
Love Jack, he should be doing all the games. I shouldve posted a question about him being so angry in the Milwaukee game. Next time for sure.
The one thing that I was surprised by is just how strong his belief in Colangelo. I really think he believes that Colangelo is the perfect guy to get us back to our winning ways. The weird part about it is that the type of players Jack loves seem to be entirely different than what Colangelo appears to appreciate.
what people forget is that BC had daddy’s help in phoenix, no such luck here.
i thought it was hilarious how you kept cutting him off. i wish you would have let him finish his low iq answer.
I didn’t cut him off at all man. Just on that IQ question, didn’t want to make him feel like he had to answer it….(ahem…Jamario Moon)
Dude, you cut him off numerous times, and very abruptly I might add. It almost sounded like you were annoyed at times, and basically telling him to “can it”. You should really work on your timing, and your tone of voice. In general, you should let him talk until he’s absolutely finished, because I found the interview pretty awkward (and actually frustrating at times). At least you had some good questions in there.
Agreed,
But lets all be easy on Arsenalist, he’s just learning right
I gotta agree… when you cut someone off with “I get it, I get it” it is sorta like telling them you don’t want to hear anymore. Even if that isn’t true, I can’t say it makes a guest feel like they are being appreciated.
Jeezus, I did it once when I wanted to let him off the hook on the low IQ question (Damn you Raptoronto).
Arsenalist,
This is meant purely as constructive criticism.
You did cut Jack off a few times. Now don’t get me wrong, I think you did a good job, it’s just that you may want to relisten to the interview and see if you pick up on anything you can do better next time.
I think we all just wanna see you turn into a kick-ass interviewer in the future, if this type of thing continues.
Again though, MAD PROPS to you for putting this thing together and of course, I love the site.
I hear ya man, thanks for the feedback.
don’t forget, jack was on speakerphone, which makes arse’s ‘cutting in’ seem much more abrupt. very rarely does one person wait until another has completely stopped speaking before starting to say something, that’s how a conversation works. however, when on speakerphone, since only one can be heard at a time, when arse begins to interject, it cuts off the feed from jack’s end, so it makes the ‘interruption’ more pronounced. if they’d been face-to-face in a studio, say, it would have flowed more naturally.
also, it was clear jack was pressed for time, and arse wanted to get to as many questions as possible, and was obviously trying to keep things moving.
Arse, he is his boss, no?
and yeah, BC is ‘the boss,’ so to expect any member of the team to openly criticize him is unrealistic.
Not going to listen to this shit and it’s amazing that anyone with an IQ over 12 would voluntarily listen to any of the Craptor media cunts….these people are calling games for the second worst team in the East for a reason..they are failures who couldn’t get a good job in broadcasting if their lives depended on it.
No insight other than the fucking obvious…apologists and suckups to Colangelo…poorly paid assclowns in a market so weak and dismal that no one cares that a huge chunk of the games aren’t even accessible to the home crowd…just pathetic….
No one who isn’t a flat out cretin can still watch these shit games without the mute button…
We’ve got to get Albert and nunya together, preferably where the rest of us can watch.
Yep. I’m not a fan of these so called Canadian reporters who don’t know shit about the sports field. They continuously suck up to the players and rarely put anyone on the spot and demand some accountability. Very very mediocre journalism by a crew of yes men.
This makes me appreciate Charles Barkley, Stephen A Smith, Don Cherry, John Madden people who wont think twice about calling someone out. Respect :)
I hope this is sarcasm.
yeah, the difference is that none of them WORK FOR A FUCKING TEAM!
Albert and Nunya, as a mental-midget tag-team, against Khandre “The Giant”…don’t you miss it!
Arse – thank you for this. Even though Jack needs to tow the company line, it’s a nice to hear him answer questions that aren’t boxed and gift wrapped for him. The silence in some areas of questioning says a lot.
…and at an IQ of 11, I qualified to listen to the clip, yippee!…but sadly I am a cretin.

I really hope BC “rents” parker before the deadline for exchange of a late first or early second rounder – Maybe the spurs for Vaughn and Finley(waived and resigned by spurs) and their first rounder? Or maybe the Hornets with Moon and Parker for Julian Wright and expiring junk with late first rounder? Their is no point keeping these expiring contracts when you can get something back with them at a minimal salary as well as the possibility of resigning a solid vet in Parker…
Doesn’t Jack also do color for college games on ESPN. or is he not doing that anymore?
Good interview. Great to hear Jack answering blogger questions. Hopefully you can score more solid guests of Jack’s level. Great job Arse. I think the low IQ question was a little bush league (did you really expect him to answer that?), but he handled it well.
Thanks. I agree, it was a little bush league. But given how he had criticized Jamario Moon the night before, I half expected him to come out and say it. Live and learn.
The best answer….. long pause….”yeah…..There are times it bother’s me…..”
Jack pet pev is Non-Calls. He gets fired up into rants about it. You could tell he restrained himself there.
But come on… the guy’s a professional. Of course he ain’t gonna shit on the organization too much. Gotta protect your job. Give Jack some credit. Have some great in depth answers. Ya got to read between the lines in Jacks ‘pauses & ahhhhh’s’ He dropped some clues.
Jack… most famou guest to date….Heellllllllloo!
Arsenalist,
good job and good on Jack to talk to the Republic.
That “alright” at the end on your part was awesome unintentional humour. I could tell that you thought that he wasn’t going to the “hello” ’cause of the pause.
Jack: “he….(fades into background)
You: “ALRIGHT”
That was GOLD!!!!
Maybe you should take a sedative before the interviews to calm you down a little.
Still, great stuff and I hope you can keep ‘em coming.
Keep plugging away, you’ll get less nervous as you do more. Good work.
One note, you might want to consider a shorter intro. 30 seconds of music is a little much, no?
somebody can tell me the title of the song and the artist?
sounded like Great Big Sea? i’m in the east, and it’s familiar, but i’m not sure…
I think its “I’m Shipping Up To Boston” by the Dropkick Murphys.
I only know that because it was in the movie “The Departed”.

I like how this is turning into bash-a-arsenalist fest.
I am expecting people to start bitching about your diction or something.
Anyway, I enjoy reading your articles a lot and think they are a quality and knowledgeable fan perspective.
These ‘podcasts’ are also pretty good, although few parts of this interview, as was stated couple of times, is pretty awkward. I also enjoy your music choices (in the nba :)).
Hope you dont get tired of it all

He’s a big boy, he can take it
JP….Armstrong is an American you dumb fuck !!!
My question was altered, so I plead “not guilty”!
Thanks for the title
Hey Arse you sound like the guy that played Super Mario Bros: Frustration.

Good interview but if you want professionals like Jack to take you more seriously and make the interview more enjoyable both for Jack and the listeners, you got to work and improve on some of your interview skils (no offence).
Finally had a chance to listen to the entire thing.
FYI …
1. The specific answer which Jack gave to my question was incorrect.
A “Screen” and a “Pick” are, in fact, not the same thing at all.
[e.g. try asking an artist sometime if the terms "shape" and "form" mean the same thing]
2. The specific answer which Jack gave to the 2nd part of my was similarly incorrect.
In fact, there are specific instances in a NBA game, when the responsibility for stopping dribble penetration from happening lies with the Pick Defender and when it lies with the Original Ball Defender, depending on the specific defensive scheme which is being used vs that offensive action during that possession.
IMO, a fair amount of the mistaken “perceptions” which many Raptors fans have towards certain players on this team have been “shaped” by the incorrect/inexact basketball analysis provided by some of the inidividuals [not necessarily Jack] who write and talk about the action which takes place on the court for the Raptors.
then whats the difference between them?
sorry …
should read as,
“… the second part of my question …”

then whats the difference between them? – by ff

It’s an ultra simplistic test regarding the value of specificity, as it relates to the NBA game.
A “Screen” is what happens when an offensive player positions his body in a way that impedes the movement of a defensive player who is checking another offensive player without the ball in his possession.
A “Pick” is what happens when an offensive player positions his body in a way that impedes the movement of a defensive who is checking another offensive player with the ball in his possession.
A “Pick” is also commonly referred to as an “On-ball Screen”.
Those who understand the value of specificity know [intuitively or through experience or a combination of both] that using the term “On-ball Screen” is unnecessarily problematic and, instead, choose to exclude it from their Basketball Vocabulary for the sake of clear communication.

When we realize that there’s a lot to learn about this game and acknowledge that there are others who may know more about than we do, at the moment, it fundamentally alters how we see basketball.
sorry …
should read as,
